2028 Genesis GV90 First Look: Korea’s Flagship Has Arrived

Korea’s luxury flagship is officially here in the form on the 2028 Genesis GV90. Essentially a showcase of Hyundai Motor Group’s engineering might, this SUV has everything but the kitchen sink. In terms of design, it stays true to the Neolun Concept, bringing it to production with minimal changes.

From the front and rear fascia to the side profile and wheel designs, not much changed. The 2028 Genesis GV90 also debuts a new iteration of the dual line lighting design, which now spans the entire front end and mimics the brand’s crest grille using LED micro lens array technology. Additionally, Genesis kept the G-matrix pattern in the lower front opening where it’s finished in chrome. Anodized aluminum accents feature heavily on the GV90 Neolun to showcase its innovative coach doors called the Neolun Arch Gate. These feature the first independently opening and closing hidden B-pillar, allowing the front and rear doors to open together facing each other.

The roll cage features a frame that’s 1.5 inches thicker than conventional vehicles to reinforce the passenger cabon. Meanwhile, the cast and extenuded alumium in the underbody and exterior panels make help increase overall body rigidinity. Furthermore, the GV90 features a world-first roof airbag to provide additional protection during rollover events.

2028 Genesis GV90: A Truly Luxurious Space

Inside is where the GV90 truly shows what it’s all about: an outrageously premium experience. Crystal controls are everywhere, and yes, the rotating sphere controller returns here. Customers can even choose genuine stone or wool cashmere trim! Two-tone colors options feature heavily, too, for both the standard model and the GV90 Neolun with its swiveling front seats. They include interesting colors like Regal Navy/Majestic Purple, Veiled Indigo/Puglia Green, and Quince Brown. For optimum luxury, a Comfort Partition separates the passenger cabin from the cargo area. A metal-coated heated windsiheld is also available.

For those wanting more exclusivity, Genesis will offer the GV90 Neolun First Edition in limited numbers. It features a four-seat configuration, a two-tone exterior color scheme, and massive 24-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the First Edition has wool cashmere garnishes and First Edition logos. You’ll be able to choose from three exterior colors paired with a distinct interior. Jaipur Rose/Seychelles Beige comes with a Quince Brown interior, while Vik Black/Baena Gree features a Veiled Indigo/Puglia green interior. Finally, Vik Black/Sonoran Navy comes paired with a Majestic Purple/Regal Navy interior.

The GV90 comes packed with tech too. It features a pop-up OLED Cinematic Display measuring 23.6 inches. When parked, the screen extends to 24.6 inches at the press of a button. Additionally, a 25-inch head-up display replaces the traditional gauge cluster. Powering the infotainment system is Hyundai Motor Group’s new Pleos Connect developed specifically for software-defined vehicles and based on Android Automotive OS. This allows owners to download third-party apps into the vehicle via the Pleos App Market. A 25-speaker Bang & Olufsen Premier 3D sound system with Dolby Atmos comes standard. Driver assistance features include Remote Smart Parking Assist 3 and Memory Reversing Assist, the latter of which helps automatically guide the vehicle backwards in tight spaces.

Effortless Power and Speed

Hyundai Motor Group’s new eMP platform launches as the exclusive platform for the Genesis GV90. With a 127.8-inch wheelbase, it was developed specifically for use in a flagship vehicle, combining uncompromising luxury, performance, and comfort. Power comes from a 123.5-kWh battery, the largest ever used in a Hyundai Motor Group EV. It features a wireless battery management system to maximize packaging efficiency while providing enough capacity for a vehicle of this type. According to Genesis’ internal testing, the GV90 has an estimated driving range rating of 310 miles. It can also charge from 10 to 80 percent in 22 under ideal condition when using a 350-kW DC charger.

The dual-motor AWD setup makes a combined 657 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. To complement all of that power, the GV90 employs front and rear electronically controlled limited-slip differentials for efficient power delivery across a wide range of weather conditions and improved handling. A multi-chamber air suspension also comes standard to adjust stiffness and ride height, allowing the GV90 to better adapt to road conditions. It works in concert with monotube dual-valve electronically controlled dampers to better absorb impacts and control body motions. Furthermore, active rear-wheel steering allows the rear wheels to turn five degrees, reducing the SUV’s turning radius while improving its cornering stability at medium to high speeds. Finally, the GV90 includes four-piston monobloc calipers with large-diameter front pistons and a high-capacity brakee disc system.

Expect the 2028 Genesis GV90 to go on sale in early 2027.
