General Motors has announced that it will add Google Gemini to eligible Cadillac, Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC vehicles. This effectively introduces an AI assistant to eligible 2022 and newer models. In total, that’s 4 million vehicles, making this the largest automotive deployment of Gemini to date.
This means eligible General Motors models now have Google Gemini access through the infotainment system. It serves as an upgrade to the existing Google Assistant. You can simply speak naturally, removing the need to say a specific command or phrase to get what you need. As a result, you can ask it to do everything from play your favorite music to the discussing the scenery and weather. Gemini can event send texts and translate it to another language. Heck you can even tell it to add emojis to your messages!

In addition, Gemini can even curate a playlist for you. It taps into streaming services like Apple Music, Spotify, and more to access music. On Cadillac models equipped with the AKG premium audio system, Gemini can also play the newest tracks in Dolby Atmos. Moreover, it can access video streaming services like Hulu, YouTube, and Amazon Prime Video, perfect for when you’re topping up at public DC charging stations! For commercial vehicles, Gemini can plan the day, find better parking for vehicles with trailers and the least expensive fueling stations.
So, when can owners of eligible GM vehicles access Gemini? Very soon. The update will roll out over several months, with a message popping up on your infotainment system once its ready. However, you must be connected to OnStar, signed in to the Google Play Store, using English as your assistant language, and opted into Gemini. GM says it intends to expand Gemini across different languages throughout its brands over time.
