Kia has reduced the 2027 Sorento PHEV lineup back down to one model with the discontinuation of the EX variant. Since its mid-cycle refresh for the 2025 model year, this three-row electrified SUV has had two trims. Now, that shrinks to one: the range-topping X-Line SX Prestige. This features rugged details like Dark Gunmetal exterior accents, gloss black window surrounds, and black 19-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the Sorento plug-in hybrid features embossed seatbacks and machined wood inlays on the doors and instrument panel.
For 2027, Kia added a head-up display as standard equipment on the Sorento PHEV. Additionally, the new Pale Gray exterior color replaces Steel Gray. Every model comes standard with a 12.3-inch digital cluster, a 10.25-inch main touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and a 12-speaker Bose premium audio system. Power heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row captain’s chairs, a heated steering wheel, and wireless charging also come standard.
Furthermore, the Sorento PHEV includes a full suite of driver assistance features. It also comes with Highway Driving Assist 2, which includes automatic lane change capability. Additionally, parking sensors and a surround-view camera are included as standard.
Power comes from Hyundai Motor Group’s familiar plug-in hybrid system. It couples a 1.6-liter turbo-four to an electric motor, a 14-kWh battery, and a six-speed automatic transmission. Total system output checks in at 268 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. AWD comes standard on the Sorento PHEV. Meanwhile, the higher-capacity battery enables the Sorento PHEV to travel 31 miles in all-electric mode, according to the EPA. In hybrid mode, the EPA rating checks in at 33/34/33 mpg city/highway combined.
Pricing starts at $55,085, an increase of over $5,000 over the outgoing base EX trim. However, remember that the Sorento PHEV’s sole trim comes generously equipped for the money.
