2027 Volvo EX60

2027 Volvo EX60 First Look: A Real Big Deal

The 2027 Volvo EX60 brings the iconic Swedish brand to a new era. It comes packed with several advancements that aim to change the game for the competitive luxury compact SUV segment. Built from the ground up as a battery-electric vehicle, the EX60 is the first Volvo to use the SPA3 architecture, and it has safety and efficiency on its mind.

Safety remains paramount. For that reason, the 2027 Volvo EX60 introduces the multi-adaptive safety belt, offering smarter and more personalized protection for front seat occupants. Additionally, the EX60 is the first Volvo to use mega casting and cell-to-body technology to help cut weight without sacrificing structural integrity. Furthermore, strengthened boron steel and state-of-the-art restraints work to help ensure optimal protection.

Built on an 800-volt electrical architecture, the 2027 EX60 charges fast and goes far. Under ideal conditions, it can add 173 miles of range in just 10 minutes using a 400 kW DC charger. Volvo also confirmed that in the U.S., the EX60 will feature a native NACS charging port, opening access to over 25,000 Tesla Superchargers without an adapter.

2027 Volvo EX60: Textbook Scandinavian Design

With the 2027 EX60, Volvo elevates its design language. Although it remains easily recognizable as a Volvo, it features a clean, yet confident look. The front fascia looks unmistakably Volvo, while the side profile highlights its aerodynamic shape. Meanwhile, the rear end has a distinct style with similar taillights to the EX30 and EX90. Like those vehicles, the EX60 has a unique pattern that highlights its wide stance and sharper edges.

This design is functional, too. The low front, sloping roofline, and tapered body sides all contribute to the EX60’s aerodynamic performance. As a result, it has a low 0.26 coefficient of drag, which contributes to its efficiency and driving range. On the other hand, the long 116.9-inch wheelbase gives the car a roomier interior with generous rear seat leg room and cargo space.

Under the skin, the EX60 comes packed with tech. It features Android OS and the world’s first automotive application of Google’s Gemini AI assistant. Additionally, the car makes use of the latest iteration of HuginCore, Volvo’s in-house-developed core system. Moreover, it features components developed in partnership with tech leaders like NVIDIA and Qualcomm Technologies.

For audiophiles, the available Bowers & Wilkins premium audio system now has 28 speakers, some of which are mounted on the front and rear headrests. The EX60 also comes pre-installed with Apple Music, featuring Dolby Atmos capability, and will benefit from regular over-the-air updates, allowing it to get better over time.

Exceptional Driving Range

At launch, the EX60 will be available in P6 and P10 variants. The rear-drive P6 has 369 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque, allowing it hit 60 mph in just under six seconds. It features an 83-kWh battery with 80 kWh usable capacity and a peak DC charging rate of 320 kW. Volvo expects this variant to have an EPA driving range rating of 310 miles when equipped with 20-inch wheels. Go for the larger 21 or 22-inch options, and range drops to 300 and 290 miles, respectively.

On the other hand, the P10 has a dual-motor AWD setup with 503 hp and 523 lb-ft. This allows it to hit 60 mph in 4.6 seconds. It also has a larger 95-kWh battery with 91 kWh of usable capacity and a higher peak DC charging rate of 370 kW. As a result, it has a driving range rating of 320 miles with 20-inch wheels. Opting for the larger options drops the driving range to 310 miles with 21-inch wheels or 300 miles with 22-inch wheels.

For those who want it all, the P12 model is the ideal choice. However, you’ll need to wait a little because it’s coming later than the P6 and P10. This model also features a dual-motor AWD setup, producing 671 hp and 582 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, it has the largest battery at 117 kWh and a usable capacity of 112 kWh. Like the P10 models, the P12 has a peak DC charging rate of 370 kW. Most importantly, the P12 has the longest driving range rating at 400 miles with 20-inch wheels. Selecting the 21-inch wheels drops that around 390 miles, while going for the 22-inch units nets you around 375 miles.

EX60 Cross Country: For the Outdoorsy Types

Alongside the standard EX60, Volvo also revealed the Cross Country variant. Just like other models wearing the badge, it features a more rugged look. The EX60 Cross Country also includes skid plates, model-specific wheels, and a new Frost Green exterior color. Wider, rugged arches round out the design tweaks.

Unlike the standard EX60, Volvo lifted the Cross Country’s suspension by 20 mm. Additionally, its air suspension setup can raise it an extra 20 mm higher. Both EX60 variants feature control arms up front and a five-link setup in the rear. Lower trims have a fixed suspension, while others have an active one. Based on the specifications provided, the air suspension appears to be exclusive to the Cross Country. At launch, the EX60 Cross Country will be offered in the P10 AWD model with 300 miles of driving range. A P12 variant follows that with more power and range.

Production of the EX60 starts this spring at Volvo’s Torslanda plant just outside of Gothenburg, Sweden. The P6 and P10 launch first, with initial deliveries taking place in the summer for the European market. P12 models follow soon after. Order books for the U.S.-spec car open in the spring, while European markets can order the car now. Expect the 2027 EX60 to arrive stateside by the second half of 2026.
