It’s here! The Tesla Model Y L has arrived in North America! This marks the return of a three-row SUV in Tesla’s lineup following the discontinuation of the larger Model X. However, view the Model Y L more as a tweener with seating for six since it’s about 7 inches longer and 1.7 inches taller than the standard car. Dual-motor AWD comes standard on the long-wheelbase variant.
Initially, the Tesla Model Y L arrives exclusively as a special Launch Series model based on the Premium variant. It comes with Launch Series center console badging, floor mats with unique piping, and suede dashboard wing. On the outside, the Model Y L has Launch Series badges, puddle lights, and sill plates. Standard features include heated and ventilated front seats and second-row captain’s chairs, a 16-inch touchscreen, an eight-inch second-row touchscreen, and an 18-speaker premium audio system.

Additional standard features include a heated steering wheel, hands-free power liftgate, dual wireless chargers, and adaptive dampers. Launch Series models also include one year of complimentary Full-Self Driving (Supervised) and Supercharging. Unlike the standard five-seat model, the Model Y L offers a Zen Grey interior instead of the two-tone black and white.
As far as driving range ratings go, the Model Y L is EPA-rated at 325 miles with the standard 19-inch Machina 2.0 alloy wheels. Moving up to the 20-inch Uberhelix wheels drops those ratings to 320 miles. Max towing capacity checks in at 3,500 lbs. with the tow hitch, which is standard on the Launch Series. All told, the Model Y L Launch Series costs $63,380, effectively making it the most expensive variant in the lineup. Yes, it costs more than the Model Y Performance, which has a sticker price of $59,380. Expect the standard Model Y L Premium to cost less.
