Mercedes-Benz went all out with today’s GLE lineup announcement. In addition to the standard models, the 2027 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 also made its first public appearance. Available in both SUV and coupe body styles, this plug-in hybrid embraces electrified performance. However, this variant may be a great sleeper, since it has the same exterior updates as the standard GLE, save for the AMG-specific grille and AMG exhaust system.
Mercedes’ Manufaktur program offers an extensive line of customization options. That means you can customize your 2027 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 exactly the way you want it. Additionally, two new Manufaktur exterior colors join the palette: Patagonia Red Metallic and Cirrus Silver Magno. Inside, buyers can select Manufaktur Nappa leather upholstery in Truffle Brown, Carmine Red, and Yacht Blue. The GLE 53 also includes AMG-specific details like a flat-bottom steering wheel with tactile rocker and roller controls, and an optional microfiber headliner.

2027 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53: A PHEV That’s All About Performance
Now for the good stuff. Under the hood, the 2027 GLE 53 now uses a plug-in hybrid powertrain. It combines an AMG-enhanced 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with an electric motor and a high-capacity traction battery. The total system output? A whopping 577 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque, enough for a 4.4-second 0 to 60 mph run on both body styles. The AMG Speedshift 9G-TRONIC 9-speed automatic returns as the only transmission option.
Mercedes gave the six-cylinder engine several upgrades. These include a new cylinder head with improved intake and exhaust ports, and a new intake camshaft. The intake system also has a larger volume. Meanwhile, the 400-volt plug-in hybrid setup improves both efficiency and performance. Additionally, permanently excited synchronous technology with an internal rotor gives the electrified components high power density. A 9.6-kW onboard charger comes standard for AC charging. You can also DC charge the GLE 53 at up to 60 kW, allowing it to go from 10 to 80 percent in 20 minutes under ideal conditions.
The new AMG Ride Control+ air suspension with adaptive damping adjustments balances comfort with the performance expected out of a Mercedes vehicle with an AMG badge. It also features a new ESP system with more precise control strategies that work seamlessly with the standard AMG Performance 4Matic+ fully variable AWD system and variable torque distribution. Additionally, multiple drive modes allow for a wide range of driving personalities. What’s more, a new Electric drive mode enables all-electric driving up to 86 mph, while Battery Hold maintains the battery’s current state of charge.
Expect the 2027 AMG GLE 53 to arrive later this year, along with the rest of the GLE lineup.
