Mercedes-AMG just dropped one of its most hardcore performance cars to date: the CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung. This car has one goal: maximize performance. Every little detail in the monster is optimized for pleasure behind the wheel. Starting with the exterior, the CLE 646 makes extensive use of carbon fiber components. It features a reinforced and widened body shell for increased structural rigidity. As a result, the CLE 646 is 2.4 wider, enhancing stability and cornering potential, and allowing for the use of wide wheels and tires.
Carbon fiber front fenders with integrated air outlets, a redesigned front fascia with larger cooling air intakes, and a hood with a central cold air intake contribute to performance. The Mercedes-AMG CLE 646 also includes side sill panels and a newly developed rear apron with diffuser. A carbon fiber reinforced trunk lid and adjustable rear wing mounted on two trapezoidal support come standard. Additionally, the CLE 646 has polycarbonate rear side and rear windows to cut weight. Meanwhile, carbon fiber extensions enable the CLE 646 to use 20-inch forged AMG Performance wheels shod in 305/30ZR20 tires up front and 335/30ZR20s in the rear. The tire compound comes from a further development of technology from the AMG ONE.
To further increase rigidity, the CLE 646 has an integrated roll bar and extra reinforcements. Additionally, functional aero components like an adjustable front diffuser and open louvres add extra downforce to keep the car planted. These also improve cooling enough that it allowed engineers to keep the front underbody fully enclosed. Stepping inside the cabin, the CLE 646 cuts weight by ditching the rear seats and removed acoustic insulations. Mercedes also deleted some comfort and driver assistance features. In their place are lightweight bucket seats with an optional six-point harness, and carbon fiver door panels.
Mercedes-AMG CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung: V8 is Back!
Under the hood, the CLE 646 marks the return of a V8. This 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-plane crank unit makes 637 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. It includes three separate cooling circuits enhanced specifically for use on a track. All of that power goes down only through the rear wheels via the AMG Speedshift TCT 9G automatic transmission.
Complementing the monstrous powertrain is a steel spring coilover suspension developed jointly by Mercedes-AMG and KW automotive. It features four-way adjustable dampers with independently configurable low and high speed rebound and compression settings. This allows drivers to tailor the chassis to wide range of driving scenarios. When it’s time to stop, AMG Ceramic High-Performance Composite Brakes with gold calipers are ready for the job. This setup includes a model-specific brake-cooling concept that make use of the large air intakes to improve heat dissipation. Up fron the discs measure in at a massive 16.5 x 1.6 inches with six-piston fixed calipers and long-fiber technology. On the other hand, the rear meausres in at 14.2 x 1.3 inches with single-piston floating calipers. Furthermore, this brake setup cuts weight and unspring mass, which is down 375 lbs. versusi the standard CLE.
For added customization, the CLE 646 includes a specially developed AMG Traction Control system that allows for more wheel slip across its nine settings.

The Mercedes-AMG CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung is the second model in the Mythos Series. This means it’s a rare collector vehicle produced in strictly limited numbers.
