Land Rover has officially confirmed the fifth member of the Range Rover family: a low-slung vehicle called the GT. Even with all the camouflage, this new model looks like the brand’s take on a sedan. It features a low-slung silhouette and the familiar Range Rover design cues. In some angles, this looks more like the British automaker’s take on the SUV coupe genre. Think of it as an even swoopier iteration of the Velar. Don’t think of this as a practical vehicle, though. That dramatic roofline descends quite abruptly, which may significantly cut into overall cargo capacity, especially when all seats are occupied.
Although its exterior remains covered up, Land Rover did not hold back on the interior. We see the cabin design of the Range Rover GT in its full glory. It features a minimalist design that looks eerily similar to the Volvo EX60’s, just with more horizontal lines, fewer curves, and hidden air vents. At least it comes with a traditional digital gauge cluster! The interior also makes use of woven textiles and materials that help turn the cabin into a sanctuary of calm.
The GT will be Range Rover’s first battery-electric vehicle underpinned by the brand’s new EMA platform. Land Rover will manufacture the GT at its Halewood facility in the United Kingdom alongside gas and hybrid models. Although it’s launching as an EV, Range Rover says the GT may also gain a full hybrid version later in its lifecycle.
Adding the sleek GT may just help expand the Range Rover line’s appeal to a broader audience. Currently, it features four models, two of which are in dire need of a redesign. The GT is a welcome step in the right direction and informs what we can expect from the next Velar and Evoque.
