The 2027 Mercedes-Benz S-Class may look like a mild refresh, but that’s not the case. Under the skin, the 2027 S-Class sees big updates across the board. From the powertrain to the infotainment system, this massive luxury sedan has plenty of new goodies. In fact, more than 50 percent of the vehicle is new. That’s 2,700 components in total! Let’s take a look and see what’s changed!
2027 Mercedes-Benz S-Class: Familiar Yet New
For 2027, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class receives a mild design change. This includes a new front fascia with a 20 percent larger radiator grille with four chrome bars and illumination. It also has plenty of hot-stamped Mercedes-Benz stars throughout, or you can choose a dark chrome version with the Night package. Meanwhile, you can select an illuminated hood ornament to complement the star pattern on the headlights and taillights. The S-Class offers new 20-inch alloy wheels produced with high-pressure casting to reduce weight and material used for production. Additionally, you can also equip it with larger 21-inch wheels.
Looking for additional customization? The MANUFAKTUR program opens up the possibilities with a wide range of exterior and interior colors. In total, you can choose from 150 exterior colors and over 400 interior colors, along with other unique touches such as stitching, wheel accents, and more. For those looking for a sportier look, the AMG Line package adds a front bumper with larger air inlets, side skirts, and a sportier rear fascia.
On the more functional side, the S-Class now includes new Digital Light headlights with micro-LED technology. It uses a powerful chip in the lighting module, increasing the high-resolution illumination field by 40 percent. At the same time, it reduces energy consumption by 50 percent, while the weight of the headlights drops by over 25 percent. The latter comes courtesy of its compact design. Meanwhile, the new headlights can now adjust their directions and add partial high-beam functionality for the U.S. market. Furthermore, an optional projection function shows warnings on the road surface.

A Techy Cabin
The 2027 S-Class goes all in on the screens. That’s because it comes standard with the MBUX Superscreen. It combines a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster with optional 3D graphics, a 14.4-inch touchscreen, and a 12.3-inch display for the front passenger. Complementing the displays are a new center console, a wide range of wood finishes, and a new Beech Brown upholstery. Under the skin, the MB. OS runs all of the infotainment functions on the 2027 S-Class alongside a completely redesigned electrical and electronic architecture. This allows for faster processing and seamless connectivity. On the other hand, the Digital Vehicle Key function lets you use your smartphone as a key.
For maximum luxury, you can upgrade the MBUX interface with a new high-end rear seat entertainment system. This includes two 13.1-inch screens and two remotes that control nearly every interior function. Additionally, the introduction of the Teams Meetings app allows you to take meetings in the comfort of your vehicle. Moreover, a wide range of built-in apps like YouTube, Disney+, and more allow you to watch your favorite shows while on the road.
Every 2027 S-Class comes standard with a Burmester 3D premium audio system for an exceptional listening experience. What’s more, an available Burmester 4D surround sound system amps up the listening experience thanks to a whopping 39 speakers and 1,750 watts of power. It also has Dolby Atmos capability for a truly vivid soundscape and additional customizability. On the driver assistance front, the 2027 S-Class receives an updated suite. This includes PRE-SAFE Impulse seat belt pretensioners and other upgrades that improve the car’s safety.

Defining First Class Travel
Comfort remains an S-Class hallmark, and for 2027, it receives updates that elevate that. The new steering wheel now has improved controls, while the redesigned center console now includes dual wireless chargers and illuminated cup holders. Additionally, the 2027 S-Class kicks the comfort up a notch with optional heated seat belts for the front seats. Yup, you read that right. Heated seat belts. Meanwhile, Digital Vent Control can store up to eight individual vent positions for the climate controls and toggled via the MBUX Virtual Assistant.
In typical S-Class fashion, Mercedes pampers everyone. You can select active multicontour front seats with six massage programs to help you relax. Those in the rear also get the VIP treatment thanks to fixed seats. Selecting the Exclusive package adds power rear seats with memory, luxury headrests with extra cushioning, and a folding center armrest. The Pinnacle package ups the comfort with rapid heating and ventilation, heated armrests, four-zone climate control with Digital Vent Control for the rear, and wireless chargers in the rear center console. Additionally, the Pinnacle Plus package goes all-in on opulence through massaging executive with rear seats and neck and shoulder heating. It even adds seatbelt presenters, adaptive rear cabin lighting, a belt bag, and a leg rest for the rear right passenger.

2027 Mercedes-Benz S-Class: Diverse Power
Under the hood, the 2027 S-Class gains new powertrains, all of which come paired exclusively to a nine-speed automatic transmission and standard 4Matic AWD. The S500 features a 3.0-liter turbo I-6 with 442 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, the S580 uses a new 4.0-liter turbo V8 with 530 hp and 553 lb-ft. This new unit features many enhancements, including a refined injection system, optimized intake and exhaust ports, revised intake camshafts, and improved compressor wheel and turbocharger housing. Additionally, a flat-plane crank with a new firing order reduces rotating mass and internal vibration. This allows the engine to rev more freely and deliver power faster.
Both the S500 and S580 have an integrated starter generator (ISG) with 23 hp and 151 lb-ft. They also have a 48-volt electrical system, allowing the car to coast, boost, or recuperate energy. In fact, the S500 has an overtorque function that increases torque to 472 lb-ft for short periods. The ISG also helps the engines start quickly. Looking for something with a plug? The S-Class has you covered there, too, thanks to the S580e. It couples the S500’s 3.0-liter turbo I-6 to an electric motor with 161 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque, and a 21.96-kWh battery. Total system output checks in at 576 hp and 553 lb-ft.
Sophisticated Suspension Work
On the suspension front, the 2027 S-Class now comes standard with 4.5-degree rear-axle steering. You can also upgrade to a 10-degree rear-axle steering, cutting the turning circle to 35.4 feet and enhancing highway stability. Every model also comes standard with an air suspension that can use car-to-x communication to automatically adjust dumping before speed bumps or road imperfections, improving ride quality. Road information from other Mercedes-Benz vehicles gets transmitted to the cloud in real time, allowing other vehicles to benefit from it.
For an even more refined drive, the S-Class offers E-Active Body Control. This allows for individual regulation of spring and damping at each wheel. As a result, it can counteract pitch, roll, and lift movements, resulting in exceptional comfort levels. Furthermore, models with E-Active Body Control active suspension can raise the car to help distribute impact loads and reduce them for occupants.
Mercedes didn’t disclose when the 2027 S-Class goes on sale, but we expect it to arrive stateside before the end of the year. Expect a higher price tag than before, especially with all of the new components it received.
