Ford has named its new all-electric midsize truck: the Fathom. This model is the first to use the Blue Oval’s new Universal Electric Vehicle Platform. Along with the name reveal, Ford released a one-minute YouTube video highlighting the type of people it expects to drive its new electric pickup. It includes families, athletes, festival goers, DIYers, and more, hinting that the Fathom is for everyone. It’s a multi-use vehicle that fits every lifestyle. Heck, Ford even showed the in-bed power outlet/inverter powering tools for a business owner renovating a storefront! Moreover, we see the open road at the end, which may hint at a long-range version.
Quite possibly the most important bit, Ford revealed the price tag of the Fathom. Starting at $29,495 (including the $1,595 destination charge), this truck looks like a strong value before we even see it in metal. All versions come standard with a touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, bi-directional power capability, and digital key capability. Since this is an EV, it also features a frunk for additional storage and flexibility that complements its bed. Additionally, Ford says that the Fathom has more passenger volume than the Toyota RAV4. Moreover, it seats five adults, making it just as good on the daily commute as it is on a weekend road trip.
In terms of driver assistance tech, the Fathom will offer BlueCruise capability on every trim. This allows for hands-free driving assistance on the highway, with over 130,000 miles’ worth of roads covered. Furthermore, BlueCruise works with built-in Apple Maps, enabling seamless on-ramp to off-ramp driving. So, when can you get your hands on a Fathom? Likely soon. Ford opens pre-orders in early 2027 for the standard-range battery model. Expect a long-range variant to join the lineup at a later time.
