Just a few months after its global debut, the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe lineup adds another model. The 2027 Mercedes-AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupe slots below its more powerful AMG GT 63 sibling and offers a longer driving range. How much more? A good chunk. How does up to 800 km or 497 miles in the WLTP cycle sound? Yeah, that’s healthy. In the more conservative EPA cycle, expect a number closer to the 400-mile mark. The GT 53 retains the same 800-volt electrical architecture as the GT 63. This allows it to charge the 106-kWh battery pack quickly. Under ideal conditions, it can add 534 km or 332 miles of range in 10 minutes and peak at 600 kW on compatible chargers! The car also includes a central cooling hub that takes over cooling of all components, combining pumps, sensors, and valves into a compact housing.
As far as power goes, the 2027 Mercedes-AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupe still has plenty. It features a dual-motor AWD setup that can continuously generate 362 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. Its peak output remains high at 536 hp, enabling a 0-60 mph run of 3.4 seconds. Additionally, the rear motor features a battery-to-wheel efficiency of 93 percent over longer distances. It also includes a two-speed transmission with a short first gear for strong acceleration from a stop and efficient city driving. Meanwhile, second gear is designed for power delivery and efficiency at highway speeds. What about the front motor? That acts as a “boost,” which can connect and disconnect as needed to maximize power, traction, and efficiency.
For added engagement, the GT 53 retains the simulated gear changes from its big brother. However, the engine now sounds like an AMG 3.0-liter inline-six instead.
2027 Mercedes-AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupe: Sporty Chassis and Looks
As far as the chassis goes, the AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupe comes standard with AMG Ride Control suspension. It features air springs and adaptive dampers, allowing the car to adapt quickly to the driving scenario. There are three modes for the suspension: Comfort, Sport, and Sport+. Complementing the suspension is the AMG Performance 4Matic+ dual-motor AWD system. This setup allows for maximum variability in torque distribution on each axle.
The GT 53 retains the same exterior design as the GT 63, complete with functional components. Its Aerokinetics rear spoiler adjusts its angle based on the driving condition and can optimize for stability, balance, and air resistance as needed. Drivers can also extend or retract the spoiler manually via a button on the steering wheel. Additionally, the Aerokinetics rear diffuser is designed to optimize airflow, lowering resistance at high speeds by automatically adapting to the driving scenario.
Stepping inside, the GT 53 has the same interior as its big brother. That means a single pane of glass that houses a digital cluster and a 14-inch touchscreen angled towards the driver. Optionally, you can also add a passenger display. Other features include a panoramic glass roof with AMG-specific lighting. Furthermore, the 2027 Mercedes-AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupe offers extensive customizability. It features a sound slider for the augmented noises, customizable steering wheel buttons, and six AMG Dynamic Select drive mode programs. On the other hand, Response Control allows the driver to personalize the responsiveness of accelerator pedal inputs to their liking.
