Toyota has announced the 2027 Prius lineup, and the changes are… minimal. For the new model year, this hybrid icon only receives two updates: a new black exterior color called Inked and standard dual-zone automatic climate control. That’s it. This electrified hatchback hasn’t seen many updates since the current generation debuted for the 2023 model year. The Nightshade model returns for both the standard hybrid and plug-in hybrid models.
As for powertrains, the 2027 Prius retains the familiar Toyota Hybrid System, which is now in its fifth generation. FWD and AWD variants are available on the standard model, while the plug-in hybrid is front-drive only. However, the EPA MPG ratings changed. The LE trim is now rated at 59/50/55 mpg city/highway/combined with FWD or 56/49/53 mpg with AWD. It’s up in the city cycle by 2 to 3 mpg, while the highway rating drops by 1 mpg. Meanwhile, XLE, Nightshade, and Limited are rated at 54/46/51 mpg with FWD or 51/45/48 mpg with AWD. Once again, up by 2 mpg in the city, but down 6 mpg and 4 mpg respectively on the highway.
As for the PHEV, the EPA rates the SE trim at 53/51/51 mpg, while the XSE, Nightshade, and XSE Premium are rated at 50/47/47 mpg. Both show a 1-mpg decrease in the combined cycle. On the other hand, the EPA’s all-electric driving range rating holds steady at 44 miles for the SE trim and 39 miles for the other trims.
Prices start at $30,050 for the base Prius LE and go all the way up to $40,000 for a Limited AWD with options. On the other hand, the Prius Plug-in Hybrid will cost you. The entry-level SE trim starts at $35,275. A loaded XSE Premium variant costs just under $45,000.
