Volkswagen has revealed the 2027 Atlas Cross Sport, the five-seat variant of its large SUV. Compared to its big brother, the Cross Sport is 5.4 inches shorter and 2.1 inches lower. Like the outgoing model, it features a raked C-pillar for that coupe-like appearance. As before, the Atlas Cross Sport will be built alongside the three-row model at Volkswagen’s plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
As for the rest of the exterior, the 2027 Atlas Cross Sport retains most of the design details of its three-row sibling. The stacked LED headlights, double light lines, and an available illuminated Volkswagen logo are all here. It also swaps the regular Atlas’ piano black bumper trim for silver ones. Furthermore, body-colored rocker panels differentiate the Cross Sport’s lower trim. Wheel sizes range from 18 to 21 inches in diameter, with higher trims featuring fresh new designs. Three new colors are also available: Dark Sage Metallic, Blackberry Metallic, and Sandstone. For added convenience, a hands-free power liftgate comes standard.
Powering the 2027 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport is a 2.0-liter turbo-four with 282 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. An eight-speed automatic remains the only transmission offered, while AWD is optional. A hybrid variant arrives as part of the Atlas lineup’s mid-cycle refresh. Max towing capacity checks in at 5,000 lbs. with the factory-installed trailer hitch.
2027 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport: Premium Appointments Abound
On the inside, the Cross Sport essentially has the same interior as the three-row Atlas. Color options include black, pebble grey, and medium brown, complemented by olive green contrast stitching. On higher trims, Varenna leather and Nappa leather options are available. To brighten up the cabin, the Atlas Cross Sport features ambient lighting with 10 color choices on the base model and 30 on the top two trims. Convenience features include a 12-way power driver’s seat, an available panoramic sunroof, and massaging front seats on higher trim levels.
Volkswagen’s latest infotainment system comes standard on the Atlas Cross Sport. It features a 12.9-inch touchscreen on the base trim, while a massive 15-inch display is included on the rest. Meanwhile, the top-end model comes with a 14-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system. Furthermore, every trim includes a 10.25-inch digital cluster, five USB-C ports, and dual Qi2 wireless chargers. For extra connectivity features, Volkswagen offers connected services through myVW+. It includes premium navigation with real-time traffic and points of interest, premium speech with generative AI, a wi-fi hotspot, myQ connected garage, and premium radio with over 30,000 stations and 1 million podcasts. Additionally, myVW+ includes AirConsole, allowing owners to use the main display for gaming in conjunction with smartphones.
Every Atlas Cross Sport comes standard with Volkswagen’s IQ. Drive suite of active safety technologies. This includes Travel Assist, a semi-autonomous system that works up to 95 mph. The system allows for automatic lane changes and can guide the vehicle to the side of the road if it senses a medical emergency. On the other hand, top trims include Predictive Adaptive Cruise Control, which adapts vehicle speed based on route guidance. It also supports speed adjustment through curves, roundabouts, exit ramps, and speed bumps under certain driving situations.
