Huzzah! Lexus Adds EV Route Planning!

This is one of those moments when it’s appropriate to say, ‘ It’s about time! ‘ Lexus has more battery-electric vehicle-specific functions in its infotainment system. The latest version, which debuts in the 2026 ES, now includes EV route planning.

Called EV Route Planning, the feature provides charging station info under points of interest. It can also show everything from charger availability and type, hours of operation, and maximum output. In addition, the native navigation system can now automatically suggest charging stops on your route if you don’t have enough juice to reach your destination. Furthermore, the navigation system can estimate the battery percentage upon arrival at each charging stop (if needed) or your destination. An EV Range Map complements these new capabilities, calculating the best route based on the destination and battery charge levels. Both are welcome additions, but there is a caveat. They require an active Drive Connect trial or subscription. Otherwise, they’re locked out, and you’re using Apple Maps or Google Maps via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

In addition to EV route planning, the latest version of the Lexus Interface includes EV Charge Management. This allows drivers to set charging schedules and charge limits, enable an external power supply, and more. If you have an active Remote Connect trial or subscription, you can also control the EV Charge Management functions via the Lexus app. Additional improvements to the infotainment system include an enhanced voice assistant with extra functions, native Spotify streaming, and a built-in Drive Recorder dash cam.

The latest version of the Lexus Interface debuts on the 2026 ES. That makes the ES 350e and ES 500e the first Lexus EVs to feature EV route planning. This system is also included on the new TZ. Expect other Lexus and Toyota models to get this system.
