Lexus has officially unveiled the 2027 TZ, its third battery-electric model, joining the RZ and ES. Built on a heavily modified TNGA platform, the TZ features standard DIRECT4 AWD. It also features either a 76.96 or a 95.82-kWh battery. Unfortunately, Lexus did not reveal power outputs. However, if we look at its cousins, the Toyota Highlander and Subaru Getaway, we can expect it to have similar power ratings. That likely means 338 hp with the smaller battery or a mighty 420 hp with the larger 95.82-kWh unit.
What about the SUV’s driving range? Lexus says certain versions can go 300 miles. That puts it in line with key competitors, including the Cadillac Vistiq and the Volvo EX90.

2027 Lexus TZ: Simple and Eco-Friendly
For the 2027 TZ, Lexus followed a philosophy called Provocative Simplicity, which focuses on sharply defined forms. The front fascia features a new spindle body with an illuminated badge, while the side profile highlights its aerodynamic shape and low center of gravity. To improve its wind-cheating capabilities, the TZ has semi-flush door handles. This, plus the rest of the aerodynamic refinements, results in a low drag coefficient of 0.27.
Like the rest of the lineup, the TZ has the twin-L signature headlights, giving it that unmistakable Lexus look. Out back, you’ll find a full-width LED light bar with an illuminated Lexus text right in the middle. Alloy wheel options include 20 and 22-inch units with resin aero covers, while the roof rails are made of recycled aluminum. Lexus also introduced a new Shaded Ivy exterior color.
Inside, Lexus doubles down on renewable materials. Interior trims are made from Shikoku bamboo fibers and bio-based UltraSuede trim. Even the seats feature an adhesive-free assembly to reduce the environmental impact. The cabin features slim panels and three rows optimized for comfort. Sound-absorbing materials and aerodynamic mirrors help minimize wind noise and vibrations. For maximum comfort, the ventilated second-row captain’s chairs have power ottomans. Every seat also includes a heating function.
On the tech front, the TZ debuts the latest version of the Lexus Interface. In addition to a voice assistant, the system now has EV routing and an EV range map. Furthermore, it also includes Spotify, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 21-speaker Mark Levinson premium audio system. All models come standard with Lexus Safety System+ 4.0. Additionally, you can also add Traffic Jam Assist, lane change assist, rear pedestrian detection, and front cross-traffic alert.

Balanced Comfort
Lexus made extensive use of high-rigidity adhesives, laser screw welding, and aluminum components to deliver stable handling and cut weight. It also features MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspension setup tuned for comfort. Meanwhile, Dynamic Rear Steering enhances the TZ’s low-speed maneuverability and high-speed stability by allowing the rear wheels to steer up to 4 degrees in coordination with the front wheels.
On the other hand, the updated DIRECT4 AWD system dynamically splits torque between the front and rear motors based on driving conditions. The system can adjust the ratio between 60:40 and 0:100 (front: rear) during acceleration or 80:20 and 0:100 when cornering for optimal handling. In addition, a new Rear Comfort model emphasizes rear seat comfort by coordinating the Dynamic Rear Steering, brake force optimization, and drive force distribution to minimize pitch and lateral motion. Paddle shifters allow the driver to adjust between five levels of regenerative braking, allowing for a maximum coasting deceleration of 0.2 G.
For the U.S., the TZ features a standard NACS charging port. It also debuts Lexus’ first 2-in-1 charging port that places AC and DC connectors side-by-side. Additionally, it features a compact motorized charging flap. Like the ES and refreshed RZ, the TZ includes battery preconditioning and can power electronic devices using a rear AC inlet and an available accessory adapter.
Trim and pricing information for the 2027 Lexus TZ will be announced closer to its on-sale date in late 2026.
