2027 BMW 7 Series

2027 BMW 7 Series First Look: Big, Luxurious, and Techy

BMW just revealed the 2027 7 Series, and it looks much better than the pre-refresh model. Yes, it’s still polarizing, but it looks more cohesive. The massive twin kidney grille remains, now flanked by thinned LED daytime running lights. Meanwhile, the main headlights now have a square shape instead of the bar design. Out back, BMW’s largest sedan has thicker LED taillight clusters, bringing its design closer to the i3, especially with its more upright greenhouse and side profile.

Lighting plays a key role in the refreshed 7 Series lighting. The updated twin kidney grille lights up with a new horizontal graphic, complementing the new crystal headlight option. It also features new welcome and goodbye lighting animations, and a light carpet!

For a sportier look, the M Sport Package and M Sport Package Professional bring unique details. These include unique front and rear bumpers, larger air intakes and air curtains, M side skirts, and a specific rear diffuser. They also come with M Sport brakes, blue brake calipers, 20-inch M aerodynamic wheels, and an M-specific light carpet. Looking for something more exclusive? BMW Individual has a dual-finish exterior color option for the 2027 7 Series, along with a host of other exclusive options.

2027 BMW 7 Series: Integrating Neue Klasse Tech

Step inside the 2027 BMW 7 Series, and a new dash greets you. It features the same layout as the i3 and iX3, which includes the BMW Panoramic Vision, a full-width pillar-to-pillar display that shows key driving info. A 17.9-inch touchscreen and a 14.6-inch passenger display come standard, while a 3D head-up display is available as an option. The latest iDrive now runs on BMW Operating System X software and the latest electronics architecture from the Neue Klasse, giving it greater capabilities. It also features an Intelligent Personal Assistant enhanced by Amazon Alexa+ AI. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard.

Those seated in the rear can enjoy the BMW Theater Screen. This 31.3-inch 8K touchscreen can do everything from streaming and gaming to Zoom video calls. However, this requires a BMW Digital Premium subscription after the four-year trial service ends. You can also download more apps via the BMW ConnectedDrive Store, including the new AirConsole, which allows passengers to play video games using their smartphones as controllers.

For the ultimate listening experience, the 2027 7 Series comes standard with an 18-speaker Bowers & Wilkins premium audio system. You can upgrade further to the 36-speaker Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound setup with Dolby Atmos. Meanwhile, a full suite of driver assistance technologies comes standard as part of BMW Symbiotic Drive. Features like the Maneuver Assistance can help the driver by recording and performing recurring maneuvers. BMW Digital Key Plus comes standard, allowing you to use your smart devices as the key, in addition to the physical fob.

The extravagance doesn’t stop at the tech features on the 2027 7 Series. You also see it in its comfort and convenience features. Heated, ventilated, and massaging multi-function front seats come standard and are available for the rear.

Two EV Variants

At launch, the 2027 BMW 7 Series will offer two battery-electric models wearing the i7 moniker. Both use a new 112.5-kWh battery with Gen6 cylindrical cells integrated in a modular arrangement and dual-motor AWD. Most importantly, its physical size remains identical to the outgoing i7’s battery. On the other hand, the power electronics now use silicon carbide semiconductor components and friction-optimized wheel bearings. These improve overall efficiency by 7 percent. As a result, the i7 now has a max range of 350 miles on select models.

In terms of power, the i7 50 xDrive has 449 hp and 487 lb-ft of torque. This allows it to hit 60 mph in 5.3 seconds before topping out at 130 mph. Meanwhile, the i7 60 xDrive has 536 hp and 549 lb-ft, allowing ot to hit 60 in 4.6 seconds on the way to a top speed of 149 mph.

For a smoother drive, the adaptive recuperation control system can now decelerate the i7 in response to vehicles and traffic lights. By automatically optimizing regenerative braking based on the traffic situation, it can slow the i7 down as needed or allow it to freewheel. You can also go into one-pedal driving by putting the gear selector in B mode.

In terms of charging, the i7 now has a peak rate of 250 kW. This allows it to DC charge from 10 to 80 percent in 28 minutes under ideal conditions. Additionally, North American models now come with the NACS charging port, enabling access to Tesla Superchargers. Don’t worry, the car has an adapter for other stations, plug & charge capability, and battery preconditioning. The i7’s navigation system has EV route planning and tells you the current charging station occupancy, number of stalls, connector types, and available amenities at that station.

2027 BMW 7 Series

Familiar Powertrains, Sophisticated Chassis

In addition to the EVs, the 2027 7 Series continues to offer gas and plug-in hybrid models. At launch, the 740 xDrive uses BMW’s legendary turbocharged 3.0-liter I-6 with 394 hp and 398 lb-ft. On the other hand, the 750e plug-in hybrid takes that iconin engine and pairs it to a 194-hp electric motor. Total output checks in at 483 hp and 516 lb-ft. Notice something missing? Yep, the 760 xDrive isn’t here, meaning the V8 option has left the building.

Since the 7 Series is still a BMW, it offers a wide range of options that help sharpen its handling. These include Adaptive Chassis Control Professional on select models. The system adds an active roll stabilization feature that uses a 48-volt electric motor designed to smooth out lateral forces that induce body roll when taking corners. As a result, the system improves agility, directional accuracy, and handling precision, all while enabling a more dynamic steering response. In addition to minimizing body roll, the system also helps improve ride comfort by suppressing body vibrations while driving straight. Together with the adaptive two-axle air suspension that can adjust the body height as needed, it allows for a softer spring setting.

2027 BMW 7 Series: A True Flagship

The 2027 BMW 7 Series looks like a proper luxury full-size sedan. It comes with all the premium creature comforts, all while adding some sporting details that make it unmistakably BMW. However, we’re most excited for the refreshed i7. It remains the most promising 7 Series, especially with its increased driving range and improved charging.

As for pricing, it starts at $101,350 for the 740 and $104,350 for the 740 xDrive, respectively. Meanwhile, the i7 50 xDrive begins at $107,750, while the checks in at $126,250. Production begins this July at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing. The plug-in hybrid 750e follows in the fourth quarter of 2026.
