2027 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

2027 Mercedes-Benz C-Class First Look: Totally Electric!

Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the 2027 C-Class, and it’s gone all-electric. Built on the MB. EA platform, this marks a massive change for the brand’s popular luxury sports sedan. On the outside, the new C-Class has a footprint similar to that of a midsize sedan from a decade ago. Meanwhile, its 116.6-ich wheelbase is closer to that of a midsize three-row SUV like a Hyundai Palisade.

Unlike the current gas-powered model, the all-electric 2027 Mercedes-Benz C-Class doubles down on the coupe-like shape. Thankfully, it ditches the egg-like appearance of the EQS and EQE sedans. Instead, it features the classic long hood and cab rearward proportions. Additionally, the short rear decklid gives it a fastback look that Mercedes calls its Athletic GT rear design. That hints at the C-Class’s sportier driving personality. It’s functional, too. The 2027 C-Class has a super low drag coefficient of 0.22 thanks to its aerodynamic shape.

As for the rest of the car, it features the new front fascia that debuted on the all-electric GLC. That includes new LED headlights with the three-pointed star pattern embedded as daytime running lights. It also features a reinterpretation of the classic Mercedes chrome-finished grille with optional illumination and animations when opening, closing, or charging the car. The Mercedes-Benz three-pointed star is housed in the faux grille, which features a smoked glass-looking mesh structure.New generation Digital Light headlights that use micro LED technology and a powerful new processor are also on the new C-Class and are 50 percent more efficient.

2027 Mercedes-Benz C-Class: A Luxurious Sanctuary

Mercedes prioritized interior space on the 2027 C-Class. Thanks to its long wheelbase and the MB. EA platform, front passengers have 0.5 inches more legroom. Headroom also increases by 0.9 and 04 inches for the front and rear, respectively. You also have a 16.6-cubic-foot trunk and a sizeable frunk. For added comfort, new high-end front seats include available massage and ventilation functions. Additionally, the available sport seats provide greater lateral support. Both seat options are also certified by Germany’s AGR (Organization for Healthy Backs), highlighting their back-friendly design for fatigue-free long-distance driving.

The C-Class EV’s interior design highlights Mercedes’ emphasis on luxury. It offers a wide range of materials, including a certified vegan interior and traditional Nappa leather. The latter has a new “Twisted Diamond” pattern that combines diamond perforations with contrast stitching to highlight its handcrafted character. At launch, it’ll be available in Tartufo Brown Nappa leather with the optional sport seats. For a sportier look, the C-Class also has an AMG Line Sport Seat package with MB-Tex with decorative stitching or leather seats with moccasin stitching. As for the standard interior color options, black, Beech Brown, and Macchiato Beige remain available. A range of trims, including white open-pore natural fiber to open-pore fineline birch wood, is available.

For added comfort, the C-Class EV features a newly developed automatic climate control system. It can heat the cabin twice as quickly thanks to a new multi-source heat pump that uses only half the energy. Using wasted heat from the powertrain and battery, as well as ambient air, this improves efficiency. Compared to an auxiliary heater, the standard multi-source heat pump requires only a third of the electric energy.

Tech Sanctuary

Like the GLC, the all-electric C-Class has the MBUX Hyperscreen as an option. all models come with a supercompute backed by artificial intelligence. It features three displays housed under one massive glass panel, totaling 39.1 inches. Additionally, the interface features 11 high-resolution ambient styles for additional personalization options. The ambient lighting even extends all the way up to the available Sky Control panoramic glass roof! It also has two optional Burmester premium audio systems, a 3D or a 4D setup with metal speaker grilles.

Like in the GLC and other recently refreshed Mercedes models, the C-Class makes extensive use of AI. As part of the fourth-generation MBUX interface, it makes use of all multiple agents including ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Microsoft Bing. The system also makes use of Google Cloud’s AI agent for navigation system, which Mercedes co-developed with the search giant. Meanwhile, MBUX Navigation with Electric Intelligence routes you the your destination and takes into account everything from roadwork to steep mountain passes. The system includes route planning that automatically plans charging stops when required. Other tech features include MBUX Surround Navigation, and an augmented reality head-up display.

On the driver assistance front, the 2027 C-Class comes standard with many. This includes Distance Assist Distronic (adaptive cruise control in Mercedes-Benz speak). Optional extras include MB. Drive Assist and MB. Drive Assist Pro, which add more advanced active safety technologies. A City Pro feature is coming at a later time and will enable seamless point-to-point travel even in city traffic. Additionally, the available Reverse Maneuvering function can allow the car to automatically reverse part of the route it recently drove.

2027 Mercedes-Benz C-Class: Athletic Handling Meets S-Class Comfort

Billed as the sportiest C-Class to date, the all-electric 2027 model brings plenty of goodies to deliver on that promise while retaining its supreme long-distance comfort. To achieve the athletic handling and S-Class-like ride comfort, the 2027 C-Class has an available rear axle steering system and Airmatic Air Suspension as part of the Agility & Comfort package. The latter can lower the vehicle in Sport mode, enhancing driving dynamics and stability.

The intelligent suspension control can also communicate with other Mercedes-Benz vehicles ahead using car-to-4X information, transmitting road information in real time through the cloud. Additionally, the car uses Google Maps data to improve efficiency and range to keep the car as low as possible for as long as possible. On the other hand, the rear-wheel steering system has a steering angle of 4.5 degrees, reducing the turning circle to 36.7 feet. When travelling at 44 mph or higher, it can turn the rear wheels up to 2.5 degrees in parallel with the front to enhance safety and stability.

Efficient and Powerful

At launch, the all-electric C-Class arrives as the C400, which features standard dual-motor AWD. Total output checks in at 482 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque, allowing the C400 to hit 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds. The powertrain can disconnect the front motor for greater efficiency, reducing losses by up to 90 percent. On the WLTP cycle, the C400 has a driving range of up to 762 km or 473 miles. Expect that to drop closer to the 400-mile mark in the more conservative EPA cycle.

Additionally, the new powertrain has a battery-to-wheel efficiency of 93 percent over long distances, thanks to the new permanently excited synchronous rear motor with a two-speed gearbox. First gear is designed for quick acceleration and improved efficiency during city driving. On the other hand, the second gear is designed for better high-speed efficiency and power delivery at high speeds. Complementing the potent yet efficient powertrain is a new on-box braking system designed for optimal recuperation. In fact, the C400 can regenerate up to 300 kW!

When it comes to charging, the all-electric C-Class delivers thanks to its 800-volt architecture. In 10 minutes of charging, it can recover 325 km or around 200 miles under ideal conditions. The standard 94-kWh battery can accept up to 330 kW at 800-volt charging stations. It also comes with a DC converter, allowing it to DC charge at lower-powered 400-volt stalls. DC charging from 10 to 80 percent only takes 22 minutes under ideal conditions.

Arriving Early Next Year

The 2027 Mercedes-Benz C-Class joins a slew of new or refreshed vehicles from the German brand. It’s the second one riding on the new MB. EA architecture, and the second sedan following the smaller CLA. Most importantly, the C-Class, along with the GLC, marks the end of the EQ branding for Mercedes’ EVs. From here on in, they’ll have the familiar names we’re accustomed to.

Arriving in the U.S. early next year, the 2027 C-Class has a big bar to clear. Thanks to the new BMW i3, which is expected to receive an EPA-estimated driving range rating of 440 miles, the standard has been raised extremely high. It also has to compete with the Tesla Model 3 and the 2026 Lexus ES. The second-generation Polestar 2 also arrives next year. That car has a similar exterior footprint to the i3 and C-Class, and it ditches the lifted look of the current car that left the U.S. after 2025 and is still sold in Europe.

To put it simply, the C-Class has big shoes to fill. In a small segment packed with strong rivals and upcoming models that are poised to bring their best, every entrant must come out swinging. Based on what we’ve seen so far with the new C-Class, that’s what Mercedes has done. Pricing should be announced closer to the on-sale date and we expect it to start around $60,000.
