Will the 800V Polestar 3 Make It Stateside?

Following suit after its cousin, the Volvo EX90, the Polestar 3 receives a major upgrade just one year after it debuted. This mean it, too, receives an 800-volt electrical architecture, allowing it to DC charge from 10 to 80 percent in 22 minutes under ideal conditions. That’s 22 percent quicker than before thanks to a peak rate of 350 kW on dual-motor and Performance models, an increase of 100 kW versus the outgoing 400-volt car. The single-motor model peaks at 310 kW, which isn’t a bad showing.

Most importantly, the new 800-volt system makes the Polestar 3 more powerful and more efficient than ever. This allows it to go farther without sacrificing performance. In fact, the SUV got new batteries from CATL, and they’re slightly smaller than before. The rear-drive 3 features a 92-kWh pack, while the dual-motor and Performance models use a 106-kWh battery. On the WLTP cycle, the RWD 3 can go 375 miles. On the other hand, dual-motor and Performance models are good for up to 394 miles and 368 miles respectively.

Polestar 3: Powerful in Multiple

On the performance front, the 3 gains horsepower, but somehow loses torque. The rear-drive model now makes 333 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque, an increase of 34 hp but a drop of 7 lb-ft. Dual-motor models go up to 544 hp but torque dips to 545 lb-ft, an increase of 55 hp, but a drop of 75 lb-ft. Finally, the 3 Performance now makes a whopping 680 hp and 641 lb-ft. That’s up 163 hp but down 30 lb-ft.

Polestar also added a new computing system with the NVIDIA Drive AGX Orin processor replacing the old Xavier unit. This increases processing power from 30 to 254 trillion operations per second, eight times for faster data processing. Polestar will also replace the old processor and install the new one on older models for free starting in 2026. Additionally, a new dark gray exterior color called Storm replaces Thunder.

Will this updated Polestar come to the U.S.? Eventually since it’s made in South Carolina afterall. However, it appears the model will skip the 2026 model year due to spaces still needing to wind down and sell leftover 2025 examples. As a result, it may arrive as a 2027 model.
