2027 Ram Power Wagon

2027 Ram Power Wagon Goes Diesel

Alongside the new TRX super truck, Ram debuted an updated version of another off-road model: the 2027 Power Wagon. This heavy-duty truck ups the capability with plenty of goodies, headlined by a potent Cummins diesel engine. This 6.7-liter twin-turbo inline-six packs 430 hp and an eye-popping 1,075 lb-ft of torque. It comes paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission with a higher final drive ratio from first to sixth gear to improve towing and acceleration. Seventh and eighth gears have a lower ratio to improve efficiency and lower noise, vibration, and harshness. A standard 31-gallon fuel tank allows for an estimated driving range of over 600 miles.

2027 Ram Power Wagon: Ruggedly Refined

The 2027 Ram Power Wagon features solid front and rear axles with locking differentials activated by electromagnetic actuators. When not active, the rear lock works as a mechanical anti-slip differential to enhance passive grip. Built by American Axle Manufacturing, the front axle measures 9.25 inches, while the rear checks in at 11.5 inches. They deliver power via a 3.42:1 ring and pinion ratio. Meanwhile, upgraded 38-mm axle shafts provide rotating force directly to the 20-inch Satin Black wheels, which are wrapped in 34-inch all-terrain tires.

Based on the Ram Heavy Duty, the Power Wagon featured a three-link front suspension to ensure roll stiffness. It also includes model-specific Bilstein monotube dampers and an electronic disconnecting sway bar. The latter allows the front axle to move more independently of the frame to improve articulation and off-road capability.

On the other hand, the rear suspension has a five-link setup to go with the Bilstein shocks and coil springs. It also includes a Bilstein dampener that connects the rear axles to the frame for added stability. Ram says this design offers improved ride quality and articulation versus a traditional leaf spring setup. As a result, it combines great ride comfort with the payload capability expected out of a heavy-duty truck. Buyers can add even more refinement and capability via the optional Automatic-Leveling Air suspension.

Functional and Capable

Available exclusively as a crew cab with a six-foot, four-inch bed, the Ram Power Wagon looks like a proper off-road truck. It features a 26.1-degree approach angle and a 26-inch departure angle, complemented by 13.2 inches of ground clearance thanks to smart underbody packaging. Additionally, the Power Wagon has a 20.6-degree breakover angle even with its standard Mopar-branded rock rails.

Distinct details like a sport performance hood, functional wheel arch extensions, Satin Black accents, and bedside graphics hint at the Power Wagon’s off-road chops. It even has Cummins badging on the front fenders, hinting at its powerful engine. Buyers can also opt for body-colored door handles, extended LED cab and bed lighting, and the RamBox cargo management system. Additionally, available heated power-folding convex trailer tow mirrors bring added convenience with their memory and power telescoping functions.

In terms of comfort, the Power Wagon brings some unique touches like a standard heated cloth bench seat. You can also upgrade to heated and ventilated front seats. The cabin gains more leather and nicer materials with the available Power Wagon Level 2 Equipment Group. Additionally, it comes standard with a 12-inch touchscreen, front and rear parking sensors, and a host of driver assistance tech like blind spot monitoring with trailer coverage and adaptive cruise control. You can further upgrade the infotainment system to a larger 14.5-inch touchscreen and add a front passenger display. Finally, the Power Wagon offers a choice between two premium audio systems: a nine-speaker Alpine unit or a Harman Kardon setup with 17 speakers.

Tow and Carry Confidently

When it comes to doing work, the Power Wagon handles it with ease. That’s thanks to its max payload capacity of nearly 3,000 lbs. and max towing capacity of around 20,000 lbs. It also offers two optional packages for added towing confidence. The Towing Technology Group adds a third LED brake light with a cargo-view camera, Trailer Reverse Guidance, Trailer Tire Pressure Monitoring System, and a surround-view camera. You can upgrade that to the Towing Technology Plus Group, which adds Trailer Reverse Steering Control and Digital Rearview Mirror 3.0.

For the first time, the Ram Power Wagon now has an optional fifth-wheel/gooseneck preparation and Automatic-Leveling Rear Air Suspension. The latter helps maintain the truck’s stance under heavy loads and includes a Bed Lowering Mode for easier trailer hook-up.

When it arrives in the second half of 2026, the 2027 Ram Power Wagon will start at $88,470. Yep, it’s significantly cheaper than the TRX. However, keep in mind this is a heavy-duty truck based on the Ram 2500, and it still needs to retain its functionality to tow and carry payload when needed. On the other hand, the TRX is no-holds-barred off-road performance, a halo super truck with a totally different mission.
