2027 Polestar 5

2027 Polestar 5 First Look: Scandinavian GT Flagship

Finally, the 2025 Polestar 5 has arrived. The production version of the Precept concept car arrives nearly unchanged, save for details like actual side mirrors. Like the Polestar 4, the Polestar 5 ditches the rear window in favor of a camera. The rest of the car essentially looks like a concept car for the road. It features a low nose complete with Polestar’s dual blade headlights and SmartZone array of driver assistance systems. Meanwhile, the rear end features a full-width LED light bar.

Inside, the 2027 Polestar 5 puts equal emphasis on the driver and passengers. It features a low hip point and seats developed in collaboration with Recaro for the optimum mix of comfort and supportiveness. Upholstery options include animal-free MicroTech as standard, or responsibly sourced Bridge of Weir leather. Every seat also comes with heating, ventilation, and massage functions. The rear outboard seats even recline. In typical Polestar form, the interior makes extensive use of renewable materials, including 50 percent less fossil fuel-based materials.

In terms of tech, the Polestar 5 features a nine-inch digital cluster and a 14.5-inch touchscreen with Google Built-In. It also has an available 21-speaker Bowers & Wilkins premium audio system with 1,680 watts. Additionally, Active Road Noise Cancellation helps keep the cabin hushed on the road. A full suite of driver assistance features is also included on the Polestar 5, including Pilot Assist.

2027 Polestar 5: All New Mechanicals

The Polestar 5 is the first vehicle to use the Polestar Performance Architecture. This platform makes extensive use of bonded aluminum, helping increase torsional rigidity while minimizing weight gain. It also uses 13 percent renewable aluminum and 83 percent from smelters using renewable electricity. The 112-kWh battery (106-kWh usable) also forms part of the body structure.

To help keep weight in check, the Polestar 5 uses a compact control arm front suspension and lightweight two-piece aluminum-bellied disc brakes. Meanwhile, the steering rack is mounted ahead of the front axle. On the other hand, the Polestar 5 shares its Brembo front brakes with the Polestar 3. However, these 15.7-inch two-piece discs save 26 pounds over the version found in the 5’s SUV sibling, reducing unsprung weight and improving handling.

The Performance model also includes BWI MagneRide adaptive dampers. These can read the road 1,000 times per second and react within three milliseconds, improving ride comfort and handling. Wheel choices range from 20 to 22 inches in diameter and come wrapped in Bespoke Michelin tires developed specifically for the Polestar 5.

Quick and Powerful

The 2027 Polestar 5 features a new rear electric motor developed in-house. Together with the front motor, the 5 makes 748 hp and 599 lb-ft of torque in standard form. The Performance trim? 884 hp and 749 lb-ft. That allows the Polestar 5 to hit 60 mph in 3.8 seconds for the base model or 3.1 seconds on the Performance. Both have a top speed of 155 mph.

Thanks to its 800-volt architecture, the Polestar 5 can DC charge from 10 to 80 percent in 22 minutes under ideal conditions. It also features a 19 kW onboard charger, allowing quicker charging on a 240-volt charger. However, the U.S.-spec cars may get a less powerful 11-kW onboard charger.

Certain markets can order the Polestar 5 now. Unfortunately, prospective buyers in North America need to wait until Polestar announces pricing and availability at a later date.
