Lexus Sport Concept: Is This the LFR?!

Well, that’s a surprise. Lexus brought one heck of a surprise to this year’s Monterey Car Week in the form of the Lexus Sport Concept. Although dubbed as a concept car, this outrageously styled coupe looks eerily similar to the prototypes that Toyota brought to the Goodwood Festival of Speed. However, the Sport Concept’s appearance at Monterey this week seems to hint that it may wear both badges depending on the region.

Lexus Sport Concept: Extrovertedly Style To the Max

Although Lexus didn’t say much regarding the Sport Concept, the video and photos speak volumes. The front fascia sports an aggressive look without the brand’s typical spindle grille. However, it has distinct LED daytime running lights reminiscent of the ones from the LC. Additionally, its headlights are recessed into the air curtain, enhancing its futuristic look.

From the side, the Sport Concept has a typical coupe profile. A cab-rearward design complemented by massive wheels and blue brake calipers. It even has flying buttresses that look functional and allow air to pass through! On the other hand, the rear has full-width LED taillights that curve downward, adding width to this low-slung beast. Additionally, the Sport Concept has LED lighting on its shark fin antenna, adding contrast to its two-tone scheme. Inside, we only see a single seat for the driver, hinting that this may turn into a limited-run vehicle to fulfill racing homologation rules.

Ready for Production?

The Lexus Sport Concept previews an upcoming supercar that’s currently under development. Camouflaged prototypes are on roads like Angeles Crest Highway and Germany’s famed Nurburgring racetrack, where engineers continue their work. What can we expect from the production model? Rumor has it that it’s using a hybrid V8. However, it’s not clear whether this is a new twin-turbo V8 or the same high-revving 5.0-liter found on the LC. No matter what engine this thing has, one thing’s clear: this will be one epic sports car.
