The Volvo EX30 may be gone in the U.S. after 2026 model year, but it doesn’t mean improvements and updates for it stop. Oh no. Volvo’s latest software update just proved that. It just gave the EX30 vehicle-to-load or V2L capability. That means you can now use your car as a power source with a compatible adapter. Yep, the car can now power electronic devices. It’s able to power fridges when the power goes out, or other portable devices during a camping trip. The system can deliver 3 kW of power at 16 amps, plenty for a broad range of equipment. Owners can use the power as needed, but it’ll automatically stop supplying energy when the battery’s state of charge drops below 20 percent.
Alongside the EX60, the EX30 is one of the first Volvo models to feature bi-directional charging and V2L capability. The Swedish automaker says that more cars will gain the capability in the future. Meanwhile, charging just got easier for EX30 owners in certain European markets thanks to the addition of plug & charge capability. This allows you to simply plug in to start a DC charging session. No finicky apps needed or tapping cards to terminals and readers.
For improved quality of life, the EX30’s infotainment received a main menu revamp. It now features a new interface with a customizable bar for quick access to frequently used functions. Additionally, the interface now runs on Android 15, just like its larger siblings. Volvo even added an improved built-in navigation app, which now provides more accurate energy consumption predictions. On the other hand, the car’s app store now has additional third-party thanks to its support for Vehicle Ready Mobile Apps. Other changes include improved response times for unlocking the vehicle using the digital key or key tag.
