Volkswagen ID.3 Neo: A Glimpse of the ID. Tiguan?

Volkswagen has officially revealed the ID.3 Neo for the European market. Although it’s not coming to North America anytime soon, we can get a glimpse of what’s headed our way. Let’s start with the interior. Volkswagen banished every haptic feedback control in the car. That means it now has physical buttons or switches and a volume knob. What about the window switches? You now have four of them, just like in a normal car. Meanwhile, the massive screen remains, and the digital gauge cluster is now larger. The latter can also display retro-style gauges.

On the outside, the Volkswagen ID.3 Neo remains mostly similar to the pre-refresh model. The front fascia receives a slight tweak, giving the hatchback a less bubbly look. It also features an illuminated logo and a full LED light bar up front. On the other hand, the taillights appear thinner and resculpted compared to the outgoing model. A 10.25-inch digital cluster and a 12.9-inch main touchscreen come standard on the ID.3 Neo. Options include a surround-view camera and a Harman Kardon premium audio system.

Under the skin, the ID.3 Neo has two battery options: a 50-kWh, 58-kWh, or a 79-kWh battery pack. The former two have a peak DC charging rate of 105 kW, while the latter tops out at 183 kW. Power outputs from the single electric motor vary based on the version. The least powerful model has 170 hp, while a 190 hp variant is also available. Want the highest output? There’s a 231-hp version available.

Other than the powertrain, we expect the successor to the ID.4 to include the same changes as the ID.3 Neo when it debuts. Likely called the ID. Tiguan, this, and the ID. Buzz will likely remain the only Volkswagen battery-electric vehicle for the North American market.
