2027 Subaru Getaway

2027 Subaru Getaway First Look: Powerfully On Brand

Look past the odd name and you’ll immediately see what the 2027 Subaru Getaway is: truly on brand. This three-row SUV seats up to seven and feels thoroughly fitting of the Subaru logo. Debuting at the 2026 New York Auto Show, Subaru’s fourth battery-electric vehicle, another model co-developed with Toyota, is named Getaway to highlight its family-friendly versatility, utility, and convenience. In addition to that, we think the name fits well because it’s also the most powerful Subaru to date.

Before we talk performance, let’s get the elephant out of the room. Yes, the 2027 Subaru Getaway and 2027 Toyota Highlander are closely related. The former has the same front fascia as the rest of Subaru’s EVs, including the six-star LED daytime running lights and illuminated logo. As a result, it looks less spaceship-y than its Toyota sibling. Additionally, it features raised roof rails, 8.3 inches of ground clearance, and a three-dimensional Subaru logo spelled out in the rear. A choice of 19 or 22-inch alloy wheels are available. In comparison the Highlander’s Limited trim has optional 22-inch wheels.

2027 Subaru Getaway: Road Trip Ready

Inside, the cabin looks familiar, which isn’t surprising. The 2027 Getaway comes standard with a 14-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital cluster, just like its Highlander sister vehicle. It features the same dash layout complete with dual 15W wireless chargers, as well as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Every trim also comes standard with the EyeSight suite of driver assistance technologies. Higher trims also include front cross-traffic alert, Intelligent Parking Assist, and a digital rearview mirror.

For added convenience, the Getaway features plenty of small-item storage, including pockets that can fit tablets and other mobile devices. In terms of seating, owners can choose between a second row bench or captain’s chairs depending on the trim. Subaru says six-foot-tall passengers can fit comfortably in all three rows. The Getaway has 15.9 cubic feet of cargo space with all seats up, expanding to 45.6 cubic feet with the third row folded down.

The Subaru also has an ace up its sleeve: more convenience features. Like the Highlander, heated front seats come standard, while certain trims include ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel and heated second-row seats. Subaru goes one step further by offering ventilated second-row and heated third row seats on some trims. Certain models also include a power-folding third row.

Electrifyingly Powerful

Unsurprisingly, the Subaru Getaway comes standard with Symmetrical AWD featuring two electric motors. At launch, the SUV will feature a 95.8-kWh battery, with a smaller 77-kWh pack to follow later.

Generating a healthy 420 hp, the Getaway is Subaru’s most powerful vehicle to date. That power, combined with AWD traction, enables it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under five seconds. It also has 82 hp more than the Highlander, and it comes standard with more power than virtually every mainstream three-row EV SUV on the market. The Hyundai Ioniq 9’s Limited and Calligraphy models have 422 hp, but the lesser trims have less. Towing capacity checks in at up to 3,500 pounds. In typical Subaru fashion, dual-mode X-Mode, Grip Control, and Downhill Assist Control all come standard.

Like its smaller siblings, the Getaway comes stnadard with an NACS charging port. That gives it native access to over 27,500 compatible Tesla Supercharger stations. Additionally, with a peak DC charging rate of 150 kW, the Getaway can do the 10 to 80 percent charge in around 30 minutes under ideal conditions. Battery preconditioning also comes standard for consistent charging speeds in cold weather. In terms of driving range, Subaru expects the Getaway to have an EPA-estimated rating of over 300 miles.

The 2027 Subaru Getaway arrives in late 2026 with the larger 95.8-kWh battery. Models with the smaller 77 kWh battery, which also come standard with AWD, follow sometime in 2027.
