For 2027, the Toyota Crown receives some major updates along with a couple of tweaks that make it a little more appealing than before. The big one is the introduction of the fifth-generation Toyota Hybrid System on the XLE, Limited, and Nightshade trims. It couples a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with three electric motors, a planetary gear set, and a traction battery. However, Toyota did not disclose the output. On models equipped with this iteration, power output ranges from 225 to 244 hp, depending on the application. As before, AWD comes standard on the Crown.
Looking for more power? The 2027 Toyota Crown has the range-topping Platinum trim just for that. It features the Hybrid MAX system, which pairs a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with two electric motors and a six-speed automatic transmission. Total system output is 340 hp and 400 lb-ft. Unlike the other trims, which use Electronic On-Demand AWD, the Crown Platinum comes with Full-Time Electronic AWD. This setup constantly manages power between the front and rear wheels to deliver optimum torque, while improving ride and handling. Furthermore, the Platinum trim comes standard with Adaptive Variable Suspension.
As far as other changes go, the XLE, Limited, and Nightshade models now come standard with paddle shifters for added control. Meanwhile, the Platinum trim’s available two-tone exterior color options now have a body-colored trunk instead of black. Additionally, it comes with red brake calipers. Inside, the Limited and Platinum trims now offer Saddle Tan leather seats. Yes, you can pair it with the Bronze Age exterior color! On the other hand, the Limited trim now comes standard with a surround-view camera, Traffic Jam Assist (Drive Connect trial or subscription required), and Digital Key (Remote Connect trial or subscription required).
Expect the 2027 Crown to go on sale later this year.
