Lexus goes all-in on electrified powertrains with the refreshed 2027 NX compact SUV. That’s right the powertrain lineup no longer offers a pure gas engine. For this update, the hybrid system receives significant updates. AWD models receive a new e-Axle that integrates the transaxle, motor, and power control unit. This cuts weight and lowers the car’s center of gravity. Additionally, efficiency improvements come courtesy of improved drivetrain electronics and new silicon carbide power semiconductors in the inverter.
Meanwhile, the 2027 Lexus NX 450+ has a new traction battery. It features 8 percent increased output and 30 percent increased capacity. Furthermore, the plug-in hybrid models now come with DC charging capability and a power-operated charging port door. Both powertrain options also benefit from a new transverse battery cell layout. This increases lateral rigidity and lowers the center of gravity, the latter of which is achieved by lowering the battery mounting position.
Other powertrain improvements include enhanced battery power management. By using more battery power during acceleration, excessive engine speed is supressed, allowing the rpms to rise in sync with the vehicle’s speed for a more linear acceleration feel. Lexus also redesigned the engine block casting to increase rigidity between the engine and transaxle, and improve NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness).
The revised rear motor on the 2027 NX also operates differently from the pre-refresh model. Instead of only turning on when additional traction is needed, the system is now always on, even while driving in a straight line. As a result, it delivers improved stability across all road conditions and low traction surfaces.

2027 Lexus NX: Ride and Handling, Improved
Lexus put immense focus on improving the refreshed NX’s ride and handling. Developed through rigorous testing at Toyota Technical Center Shimoyama and the Nurburgring in Germany, the brand refined the SUV’s driving dynamics. In addition to the reinforced front and rear unibody, the NX features additional reinforcements along the tunnel ridge to increase floor rigidity. It also features redesigned suspension towers with integrated structural components. Furthermore, models without the Adaptive Variable Suspension include new shock absorbers with ultra-low-speed valves that generate high-response damping force even to minute movements for a tighter handling and a more comfortable ride.

Engineers shrank the steering wheel diameter by 0.4 inches to 14.2 inches, and added a variable rack gear with a more responsive variable steering ration on all models. Lexus even changed the telescopic adjustment range to complement the new steering wheel with a more optimal driving position. A re-tuned electric power steering system complements these changes, resulting in a more natural feel. In addition, accelerator pedal assembly improvements reduce friction and allow for more linear pedal movement and precise control of vehicle speed. Furthermore, a new brake control system applies subtle braking during cornering to stability yaw and roll motions during abrupt maneuvers for greater stability and ease of control.
Improved aerodynamics are also part of the big changes for the refreshed NX. The side grille ducts have increased rigidity, helping stabilize air flow around the tires. Meanwhile, fins integrated into the wheel housings improve air flow management and reduce pressure build up for better stability.
A Fresh Look
On the outside, the NX receives a signifant revision. It now features new headlights with a new dual line signature and a mesh grille that enhances aerodynamic and cooling performance. You also have more black accents replacing the outgoing car’s chrome finish. In the rear, the taillights now have a new double L pattern and illuminated Lexus logo. A new exterior color called Shaded Ivy makes its debut on the 2027 NX. Additionally, Incognito is now available on the NX, but only on the F Sport models.
Stepping inside, you’ll find more changes. The steering wheel comes directly from the ES sedan, while models with the Mark Levinson premium audio system now have perforated metal speaker grilles. Two new interior colors are also available: Abalos and Radiant Red, the latter of which is an F Sport exclusive.
For a more athletic look, the F Sport variants include front under spoiler, side pontoons, and rear corner devices. They also include Piano Black-finished roof rails, spoiler, and rocker panels. To complete the package, the NX F Sport has red brake calipers, 20-inch alloy wheels, and and all-black instrument panel.

A Convenience Upgrade
Looking for some kind of relaxing experience? Check out the new Sensory Concierge feature on the Luxury and F Sport trims. It features three models tailored specifically for a relaxing moment. The three Sensory Concierge modes are Inspire (energize and uplift), Radiance (promotes focus and clarity), and Revitize (encourages relaxation). Additionally, the NX offers multiple fragrance experiences to complement the Sensory Concierge. This includes Shinmei (citrus fragrance), Seiyo (gentlwe white floral fragrance), and Hanya (musk fragrance).
The 2027 Lexus NX gains the latest tech features. These include the Lexus Safety System+ 4.0 as standard, which includes emergency steering assist and intersection turn assist. That’s on top of the usual suspects like adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and more. The NX also includes a standard Drive Recorder and available Digital Key, the latter of which requires an active Remote Connect trial or subscription. All models now come standard wit a 12.3-inch digital cluster and a 14-inch touchscreen. The latter runs the latest version of the Lexus Interface, which debuted on the new ES.
When it goes on sale later this year, the 2027 will be offered in four trims: Premium, Premium+, F Sport, and Luxury. FWD and AWD will be available on the NX 350h, while the NX 450h+ comes exclusively with AWD. Pricing will be announced closer to the NX’s on-sale date.
