The next Gymkhana film has been announced at the 2025 SEMA Show. In addition, the hero car also debuted: the Subaru Brataroo 9500 Turbo. A heavily modified Subaru BRAT, this four-wheeled star pushes the envelope to new limits. Engineered by Subaru and partner Vermont SportsCar, this little monster was designed to corner, slide around, and fly. The car makes use of a rallycross-derived 2.0-liter turbo boxer four-cylinder engine with 670 hp and 680 lb-ft of torque. Most importantly, it revs to a screaming high 9,500 rpm. That makes the Brataroo the high-revving Gymkhana car to date. Power goes to all four wheels using a six-speed sequential SADEV gearbox and motorsport-grade differentials.
To help cut the Subaru Brataroo 9500 Turbo’s weight, the body makes extensive use of carbon fiber draped over a chassis and roll cage engineered by VSC. The latter two also adhere to the latest WRC safety standards. Additionally, angular lines and reshaped proportions by designer Khyzyl Saleem redefine the BRAT’s iconic look. The little truck features a widebody that adds motorsport elements while keeping its design familiar. Furthermore, the Brataroo’s livery takes inspiration from sunsets in the Australian Outback and features kangaroos. What’s more, it even includes Travis Pastrana’s signature thumbs up! That’s not all. The car also includes 70s Subaru branding and several other details that add a bit of retro flair.

Subaru Brataroo 9500 Turbo: Retro Flair Meets Modern Touches
Functional bits complement the cool exterior details. These include active aero front fender louvres that allow real-time control of the car’s front-end balance in the air or on the ground by pivoting forward or back. In the rear, the car includes two interchangeable and adjustable rear wings: a large one for more downforce and aerodynamic stability, or a low one for general tire-shredding duties. Both also include an adjustable angle of attack and actuate upward for control over pitch and rotation while airborne. Meanwhile, the larger wing extends upward, increasing width, surface area, and aerodynamic stability. On the other hand, the Brataroo has a one-off set of monoblock wheels for KMC Wheels that pay tribute to 1970s rallying.
Inside, the Subaru Brataroo 9500 Turbo keeps the retro theme, nodding to the original 1978 interior. It features a carbon-fiber dashboard and flax-composite wood-grain accents that echo the BRAT’s utilitarian charm while adding modern controls. It also comes with a period-correct Uniden CB radio mesh past and present. The car also celebrates Travis Pastrana’s relationship with Dixxon Flannel and features the trademark plaid pattern.
The next Gymkhana film, Aussie Shred, premieres in early December on the Hoonigan YouTube Channel. Travis Pastrana will be driving the hero car, the Brataroo.
