The SEMA Show is all about extremes and Infiniti sure as hell went there. The Infiniti QX80 R-Spec turns up the wick on this large luxury SUV with plenty of performance goodies. Its most important upgrade? The V38DETT, the same 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 found in the legendary GT-R sports car. This QX80 nabs the version found in the NISMO model and goes crazy by tuning it to over 1,000 hp. That makes it a step above the QX80 Track Spec concept car that debuted at this year’s Monterey Car Week.
To get to that 1,000-hp output, the Infiniti QX80 R-Spec receives several upgrades all while giving a nod to the standard car’s engine lineage. These include custom turbochargers, intercoolers, exhaust manifolds, and an upgraded fuel system. To help bring this monster to a stop, it gets the GT-R’s carbon ceramic brakes, but with bespoke modifications. Meanwhile, a custom coilover suspension helps improve the QX80’s handling. For maximum grip, the bronze 24-inch wheels come wrapped in 315-section-width tires.

In terms of exterior design tweaks, the QX80 R-Spec includes a body kit that’s lower, wider, and aerodynamically enhanced. Plus, it includes several nods to the GT-R T-Spec Takumi Edition like the color-shifting wrap reminiscent of Nissan’s iconic Midnight Purple exterior color. That color was made famous by the R34 and R35 generations of the GT-R. Additionally, the QX80 R-Spec includes restyled exhaust finishers, diffusers, fog lights, badges, and other details inspired by the GT-R T-Spec Takumi Edition.
Will the QX80 R-Spec make it to production? Most likely not. However, it could influence the QX80’s future design refresh. As with all SEMA builds and concepts, the QX80 R-Spec serves mainly as a show car. Something that shows off what an automaker and the aftermarket can do when allowed to push boundaries.
