Infiniti brought a pair of interesting QX80 concepts to this year’s Monterey Car Week, alongside the QX65 Monograph. Essentially, it’s a way to show how the brand’s flagship can span two extremes. The Infiniti QX80 Track Spec emphasizes on-road performance with its unique rocker panels, front splitter, air intake, and fender vent. It also features the grille from the QX80 Sport, quad exhausts, 24-inch wheels, black and blue vinyl wrap, and fender flares.
The changes aren’t just cosmetic, though. Infiniti massaged the standard 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 to over 650 horsepower and 750 lb-ft of torque for the QX80 Track Spec. That’s an increase of roughly 50 percent for those keeping score. Upgraded compressors, a high-capacity intercooler, new fuel injectors, a ram air intake, and a lower restriction exhaust all helped increase the SUV’s output. Large front Brembo brakes complement the higher-performance engine.

On the other end of the spectrum, the QX80 Terrain Spec features a more rugged look. A raised ride height, off-road wheels, all-terrain tires, and unique fender flares hint at its off-road focus. It also includes a roof-mounted lightbar, a pop-up tent, and protective covers over the front and rear fascias. For added assistance off-road, the QX80 Terrain Spec has a 3D surround view camera system with an invisible hood view. However, Infiniti did not disclose tech specs on this specific concept study. We suspect it’s using the standard output variant of the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, which is good for 450 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque.
Will these concepts eventually make it into the QX80’s lineup in the future? It’s hard to say. Both vehicles look cool, but one of them goes way over the top. Of the two, the Terrain Spec could potentially turn into a new QX80 trim or an off-road package option.
