Volkswagen has announced improvements for its IQ. Drive suite of driver assistance features. Available on every 2027 model except the Taos and Jetta, this upgrade includes new functions aimed at making every drive more convenient.
So, what’s new? Quite a bit! Volkswagen added useful functions. Travel Assist now includes assisted lane changing capability. Drivers can initiate this by pushing the turn signal halfway towards the desired direction with Travel Assist active at speeds above 45 mph. The turn signal on the digital cluster will flash three times when the system is used successfully. It will then use the rear radar sensors to detect oncoming vehicles on adjacent lanes and initiate the lane change when it’s safe to do so. The feature can also pause the lane change for 12 seconds until traffic clears.
As far as other changes go, Emergency Assist Plus can guide the vehicle to the side of the road during a medical emergency. However, Lane Assist or Travel Assist must be active for this to work. The system is triggered if the vehicle detects multiple lane departures without driver intervention, or if it doesn’t detect the driver’s steering wheel inputs for 25 seconds. In the former scenario, the vehicle provides visual and audible warnings to get the driver’s attention. Meanwhile, in the latter, it honks the horn, presses the brakes, and tightens the seatbelt to get the driver’s attention.
Certain models also include a new rearview camera. This can now detect pedestrians behind vehicle and can apply the brakes if needed to avoid an impact. Additionally, a new predictive adaptive cruise control system that can adjust your speed based on the posted limits. Furthermore, the 2027 ID. Buzz has a subscription-based Road Experience Data feature that gathers road data to assist the driver assistance features.
