2026 Subaru Uncharted GT Update 2: So Much Fun!

We’re coming up on six months of ownership with the 2026 Subaru Uncharted GT, and we found something unexpected. This thing is a blast to drive when the roads turn twisty. Subaru’s rally and racing heritage somehow made its way into a small battery-electric SUV it co-developed with Toyota. That’s not a bad thing!

To recap, the 2026 Subaru Uncharted was co-developed with the Toyota C-HR. However, it has some unique differences that we feel make it more desirable than the Toyota cousin. These include a Power Drive mode, available ventilated front seats, and, on AWD models, X-Mode with Grip Control. But wait, there’s more! Let’s get into it!

2026 Subaru Uncharted GT: A Lifted Hot Hatch?

To answer the question in the subtitle: not quite. That doesn’t detract from the Uncharted’s fun personality. It features a nicely balanced suspension that’s game for a good time. Subaru tuned this firmer than its cousin, the Toyota C-HR, meaning you feel the road more. At the same time, it’s tighter through turns, allowing you to fling it around more confidently. Minimal body roll adds to the Uncharted’s surefooted feel through the turns. Despite wearing all-season rubber, this little guy grips well, too. However, we did find that the electronic nannies are quite intrusive. Additionally, the steering, while accurate and on the quicker side, feels disconnected.

That’s just the start. The electric motors also play a key role in enhancing the Uncharted’s fun factor. Like the suspension, Subaru tuned them differently. As a result, the car feels livelier and more willing to play when the road gets twisty. Both motors shuffle power smartly, giving the car plenty of traction. Unlike the larger Trailseeker, AWD system in the Uncharted (as well as the Solterra) has a more powerful front electric motor. Despite this bias, it still manages to feel playful and less like a FWD car when driven spiritedly. Versus their Toyota cousins, 2026 and newer Subaru EVs with AWD always keep both electric motors on. This contributes to the Uncharted’s lively road feel and willingness to rotate its rear end.

Selecting Power mode adds a bit more fun. Putting your foot down results in the car dialing down the power output of the front motor, while overdriving the rear. That makes it even easier to get the Uncharted to rotate, adding to its fun factor. Upon corner exit, take advantage of the dual-motor model’s 338 hp and 323 lb-ft of torque to blast out and keep the fun going!

Just a Few Tweaks Away

From a performance perspective, the Uncharted has a nice setup. It offers a great balance of performance and daily usability, along with the versatility of a liftgate. It doesn’t need much to become a proper hot hatch. Stickier tires, a stiffer, lowered suspension, tightened steering, and the 420-hp tune from the three-row Getaway…it’s pretty much there. Yes, you’ll sacrifice driving range due to the stickier rubber, but that tradeoff may just be worth it for all the fun you’ll have. Anyway, wishful thinking aside, we love how the Uncharted drives. We commend Subaru for giving it a distinct personality from its twin, the Toyota C-HR.

Look out for our next update! We’ve road-tripped the Uncharted to Palm Springs, and we’re eager to tell you all about its driving range, comfort, and daily usability! Stay tuned!
