The new body style for the Polestar 4 literally has SUV in its name. However, that’s all marketing speak. This thing is an all-electric midsize wagon with a slight lift. The so-called coupe? A dramatically shaped sedan without a rear window. Most of the SUV’s design remains identical to the windowless coupe model. The big change happens behind the C-pillar where you’ll find a small window and a squared off rear end with glass! That’s how it looks like a conventional wagon. Full-length roof rails hint that the 4 SUV’s more utilitarian nature and they have a load capacity of 220 lbs. Two new exterior colors are available: Aurora and Ozone, the latter of which is offered in a matte finish.
Inside, the Polestar 4 SUV has an identical interior to its coupe sibling. It features a landscape-style main touchscreen and an available 1,400-watt Harman Kardon premium audio system with 12 speakers. You can choose from a range of upholsteries, including bio-attributed MicroTech, tailored knit upholstery, and Bridge of Weir Nappa leather. On the other hand, the SUV’s upright design adds an extra inch of head room. Cargo capacity increases to 59.6 cubic feet with the rear seats folded, an increase of 5.4 cubic feet. With all seats up, the 4 SUV has 23.1 cubic feet of space or 4.5 cubic feet more than the coupe.
Additionally, the standard glass roof stretches all the way to liftgate. Vehicle-to-load capability now comes standard, allowing for bi-directionalpower and a camping mode that lets you use the car as a living space. Google Gemini functionality also comes standard.
Polestar 4 SUV: A Hot Electric Performance Machine
Like its coupe sibling, the Polestar 4 SUV uses Geely Group’s SEA1 platform and 100-kWh battery pack. It has a peak DC charging rate of 200 kW and is capable of 22-kW AC charging in select markets. Single-motor models make 272 hp and 253 lb-ft of torque, while the dual-motor AWD cars have 544 hp and 506 lb-ft. The 4 SUV also features the same suspension upgrades that the coupe model received earlier this year.
Looking for sharper handling? The Performance pack is available on the 4 SUV. That adds a performance chassis with recalibrated ZF-sourced adaptive dampers, high-performance Brembo brakes, and new 22-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero high-performance tires. Yes, the Swedish Racing Gold seatbelts are still included in the Performance pack. Meanwhile, driving range ratings on the WLTP cycle checks in at 391 miles for the single-motor models or 373 miles for the dual-motor AWD cars.
As far as sustainability goes, the 4 SUV has one of lowest carbon footprints in Polestar’s lineup. Its batteries are made at a facility that uses 100 percent renewable electricity and makes use of 23 percent recycled aluminum. Furthermore, another 34 percent of aluminum used comes from plants powered by renewable electricity. Production of the SUV variant takes place in Busan, Korea, alongside the coupe.
