Acura Confirms 3 New SUVs Arriving in 2028

Acura just announced its product roadmap, and it consists of…SUVs. Yep, Honda’s luxury division intends to double down on utility vehicles. An adventure-ready SUV is scheduled to debut first in early 2028. Think of this as a more luxurious take on the Passport, aimed at the likes of the Lexus GX, Toyota Land Cruiser, and certain Land Rover models. The automaker says the new model combines rugged capability with premium styling, comfort, and technology expected from Acura’s vehicles.

Following the rugged SUV, the new RDX joins the lineup in late 2028. It will be the first model to use Honda’s two-motor hybrid system. This setup forgoes a traditional gearbox or even a planetary gear set. Instead, it uses a direct-drive setup, coupling a gas engine to two electric motors and a small traction battery. Acura also confirmed that a two-motor hybrid system based on a V6 engine is under development for use in larger vehicles. It noted that the system delivers sporty performance, improved towing, and better efficiency.

Lastly, the final SUV joining Acura’s lineup is a new eight-passenger model. The brand’s largest model aims to meet the demand for large family-friendly SUVs in the luxury space. This new model slots above the MDX and is currently in development. However, the brand did not include a timeline for the large SUV’s debut.

These three new vehicles join the Integra, ADX, and MDX. Their arrival is welcome news, especially after the cancellation of Honda’s in-house battery-electric vehicle project. That effectively killed off the new RSX, which was supposed to go on sale in late 2026. This came after it abruptly discontinued the ZDX EV after one year on sale. With these three new SUVs, we hope Honda’s luxury division finds its footing and recovers from this year’s major losses.
