Polestar may be leaving the United States, but that doesn’t mean it’s done globally. It just previewed the future with a new concept car. Called the Formula 2030, Polestar just gave us a glimpse of two forbidden fruits, the next-generation 2 and the upcoming 7 SUV. This show car provides hints at how the Swedish automaker’s design direction going forward.
Based on the sole image, the Polestar Formula 2030 hints at an evolutionary approach to the current look. It refines what the Polestar 4 and 5 brought into something sportier and little more aggressive. Up front, the dual-blade LED lighting signature, which originally evolved out of Volvo’s Thor’s Hammer lights, remains. The first iteration found on the Polestar 3 looked like a thinner take on Thor’s Hammer. Meanwhile, the Polestar 4 and 5 went a step further and split the lighting elements. This latest iteration also moves the main headlight projectors between the blade LED daytime running lights. Additionally, it looks like the functional front spoiler that first appeared on the Polestar 3 is back. The lower blade light also looks longer and thicker, while each projector has two small LED accents that make the car look like it has eyes.
Furthermore, the Formula 2030 showcases how Philipp Roemers, Polestar’s new head of design, interprets the brand’s identity. Based on this single image, it’s clear that Roemers and his team took great care in moving the design forward without losing what makes Polestar vehicles distinct. We’ll see the final results when the second-generation Polestar 2 arrives followed the new Polestar 7, a compact SUV that’s a cousin to the upcoming Volvo EX50. Unfortunately, these are forbidden fruits in the United States with Polestar banned from selling vehicles here starting in 2027. We’ll just admire from afar for now.
