2027 Toyota GR86 Sharpens Up the Drive

Toyota has introduced the 2027 GR86 with some meaningful changes at Fuel Fest. This latest iteration receives refined throttle calibration, designed for smoother, more linear response. Additionally, the shift feel when dropping from fifth to fourth has been improved for added seamlessness on a spirited drive. Toyota achieved this by widening the shifter interlock chamber between fourth and fifth by 0.02 inches.

In terms of other changes, the 2027 Toyota GR86 is now available in the new Thunder exterior. This flat light gray hue evokes hints of the old Series.Gray color from the first-generation Subaru BRZ. On the other hand, the new Cockpit Red interior color complements the black Ultrasuede trim on the Premium trim. An all-black interior is also available. Furthermore, the GR86 Active Safety Suite receives upgrades. The stereo camera’s recognition range has nearly doubled to improve detection of preceding vehicles while adaptive cruise control is active. It also adds a monocular camera to help detect nearby objects at intersections.

Other than that, the 2027 GR86 remains unchanged from last year. A high-revving 2.4-liter flat-four with 228 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque remains the only engine option. You can pair it with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. A Torsen limited-slip differential comes standard on all GR86 trims. The Performance package returns as an option on all models. It includes SACHS dampers and Brembo brakes. The latter features four-piston front and two-piston rear calipers finished red. They also feature larger discs at 12.8 x 1.3 inches in the front and 12.4 x 0.79 inches in the rear.

Expect pricing to stay similar to last year’s model. That makes the GR86 one of the most affordable sports cars available. However, expect it to hit $40,000 with options like the Performance package and more.
