Kia EV2 Arrives As a Fun-Sized, City-Friendly SUV

Kia revealed the EV2, its latest all-electric SUV in its lineup. Slotting below the EV3, this fun-sized SUV is ready to take on the mean streets of Europe. Its design takes Kia’s latest design language and applies it to a super small crossover. Up front, it features the same vertical headlights as in the EV3, Seltos, and Telluride. Complementing this is a boxy, upright profile and quirky C-shaped taillights that give the rear end a chunky look. It even comes with flush door handles!

Like other Kia models, the EV2 is available in several trim levels, including a GT-Line model with a sportier appearance. That variant includes plenty of body-colored bits that distinguish it from the standard EV2. Inside, it features dual 12.3-inch displays just like its larger siblings, as well as plenty of fabric materials, ambient lighting, and useful storage solutions. You can also add a Harman Kardon premium audio system, Digital Key 2.0, and a 100W wireless charger. There’s even a pet mode to keep your feline and canine family members comfy.

At launch, the EV2 will offer two battery options: 42.2 kWh or 61 kWh. Kia says this gives the little crossover a driving range of 317 km or 197 miles with the smaller battery. Upgrade to the 61-kWh unit, and that increases to 448 km or 278 miles. DC charging from 10 to 80 percent happens in around 30 minutes under ideal conditions. It also includes vehicle-to-load capability, enabling the EV2 to power small appliances. A full suite of driver assistance technologies, including Highway Driving Assist 2 and remote parking, is also available.

Will the EV2 eventually go global? Likely. However, don’t expect a car this small, even an SUV, to come to the U.S. This little guy is aimed straight at European consumers.
