2026 BMW i4 Gains Range and Power

Details on the 2026 BMW i4 are officially here, and it receives some major updates. The biggest one? More range AND more power. That’s right, the i4 sees a bump in performance and how far it can go. Let’s start with the more important one, the driving range. The 2026 i4 eDrive40 now has an EPA-estimated rating of over 300 miles, regardless of wheel choice. With the standard 18-inch wheel, it’s good for 333 miles on a full charge. Opt for the 19-inch option, and it drops to 307.

The increase comes courtesy of new silicon carbide (SiC) components, specifically the inverter. These make energy transfer from the high-voltage battery to the electric motors more efficient, resulting in an increased driving range. Additionally, the silicon carbide components are more powerful and more resistant to heat than traditional silicon semiconductors. Although BMW didn’t disclose the driving range of the i4 xDrive40, expect that model to also gain plenty

Either way, that’s plenty of range. In fact, we think those numbers may lean on the conservative side. When we tested the 2022 i4 eDrive40, we got 310 miles on a single charge. Back then, the EPA rated our example, which also came with 19-inch wheels, at 282 miles per charge. We easily went over that number without much effort. With these improvements, we think the i4 can handily go around 350 miles with either wheel option.

2026 BMW i4: More Performance for the New M60

Meanwhile, the performance-focused i4 M60 sees a big bump in power. At start-up, it’s now rated for 510 horsepower, an increase of 41 horsepower over the outgoing M50 model. Selecting the Sport setting under My Modes bumps the total output up to 593 horsepower, 57 more than its predecessor. As a result, the i4 M60 can hit 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds. It got a bump in driving range, too, at 278 miles with the 19-inch wheels or 232 miles with the 20s.

As for other changes, the 2026 i4 now includes a standard Seal & Drive Kit. On the other hand, the Parking Assistant Professional Package now includes the Drive Recorder. On the eDrive40 and xDrive40 models, the Shadowline Package now includes black side mirror caps and M Sport brakes with blue calipers. Finally, glass controls are now available on all i4 models.
