2026 Lexus RX Expands PHEV Availability

The 2026 Lexus RX arrives with an expanded lineup that sees the expanded availability of its plug-in hybrid powertrain option. Initially available only in the Luxury trim, the RX 450h+ is now available in the Premium grade. That adds a second option for those looking for the versatility of the plug-in hybrid system in their midsize, two-row Lexus SUV.

Additionally, the Appearance Package is now available in combination with the F Sport Handling and F Sport Performance Packages. This adds black exterior details, orange brake calipers, black 21-inch alloy wheels, and a black interior with gray stitching. However, you’d better like grayscale colors because that’s the only way to get this package.

2026 Lexus RX: 4 Powertrain Options

As before, the 2026 RX offers four powertrain options. The RX 350 uses a 2.4-liter turbo-four with 275 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. FWD comes standard, while AWD is available as an option.

Meanwhile, the RX 350h features a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder with three electric motors, a planetary gear set, and a high-voltage traction battery. Its total system output checks in at 246 hp and 233 lb-ft. AWD comes standard on the RX 350h.

Need more power? Check out the RX 450h+. This takes the same hybrid system as in the RX 350h, but adds a high-capacity lithium-ion traction battery. That gets you 304 hp, and an EPA-estimated all-electric driving range rating of 38 miles. AWD also comes standard on the RX 450h+.

Turbocharged and Electrified Performance

At the top of the lineup is the RX 500h, which is only available in F Sport Handling and F Sport Performance variants. This uses a 2.4-liter turbo-four coupled to two electric motors, a six-speed automatic, and a high-output nickel-metal-hydride battery. The result? 366 hp and 406 lb-ft. Lexus’s DIRECT4 AWD system comes standard on this performance-oriented model and can send 80% of torque to the rear wheels.

In terms of chassis and suspension tweaks, the RX 500h has an available Adaptive Variable Suspension. This helps improve handling and steering response, all while maintaining a smooth ride. For enhanced agility and maneuverability, the F Sport Performance model also includes Dynamic Rear Steering. Meanwhile, enhanced stopping performance comes courtesy of large six-piston front brakes with 15.74-inch calipers. F Sport Performance models also include Michelin Pilot Sport tires for additional grip.

A Strong Value Proposition

The 2026 Lexus RX comes with plenty of standard features. This includes the Lexus Safety System + 3.0 driver assistance suite, a 12.3-inch digital cluster, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Lexus Interface infotainment system features either a 9.8-inch or a 14-inch touchscreen, depending on the trim. Meanwhile, available features include wireless charging, Digital Key capability, a head-up display, a 21-speaker Mark Levinson premium audio system, Advanced Park, and Traffic Jam Assist.

Pricing starts at $51,176 for the base, front-drive RX 350. AWD adds $1,600 to the sticker price of the gas models. On the other hand, the RX 350h starts at $53,475 and tops out at just over $64,000. The RX 450h+ plug-in hybrid starts at $66,680 for the new Premium trim or $73,310 for the Luxury model. Finally, the RX 500h starts at $57,980 for the F Sport Design or $66,850 for the F Sport Performance. The 2026 RX arrives at Lexus dealerships later this year.
