The Nissan X-Trail Nismo joins the brand’s growing lineup of performance models. In the U.S., we only get the Armada and the Z. Other markets? They also have the Ariya, Note Aura, and Skyline. The X-Trail, which is the Rogue in North America, arrives as the sixth global Nismo model. In terms of design, it receives the usual treatment: a nice helping of red stripes, two-tone paint, and distinct aerodynamic treatments. It also features a front lower spoiler that improves downforce. Additionally, the X-Trail Nismo features 20-inch alloy wheels with wide center openings for improved brake cooling and a flat outer rim to streamline air flow. Inside, two-tone black and red highlight the X-Trail Nismo’s sporting intentions, especially with its optional Recaro front seats.
Power comes from Nissan’s e-Power series hybrid system. This uses a gas engine strictly as a generator, while the electric motors turn the wheels. However, its output on the X-Trail Nismo wasn’t disclosed. We suspect it’s the same 211 hp and 387 lb-ft of torque as the standard model. Handling seems like the prime focus for the Nissan X-Trail Nismo. Its suspension features Kayaba Swing Valve shocks that maximize ride and handling, all while reducing body motions. Nissan also tuned it specifically for high-riding vehicles to make sure they remain stable and flat through corners.

Nissan X-Trail Nismo: EV Tech, Enhanced
The X-Trail Nismo comes standard with Nissan’s e-4ORCE AWD system. Like the all-electric Ariya, it features a second electric motor on the rear axle. However, for a more performance-oriented feel, Nissan tuned it with an increased rear-wheel drive bias. This allows for better front tire control and enhanced line tracing when cornering. Additionally, every drive mode has a unique acceleration characteristic for a more enjoyable drive across a wide range of scenarios. It also comes standard with Michelin Pilot Sport EV tires to help maximize the performance enhancements of the Nismo-tuned AWD system.
Will the X-Trail Nismo ever find its way into other markets? Most likely not. This sporty SUV may be for Japan only, where it goes on sale September 24th. However, expect the e-Power hybrid system to eventually find its way beyond Asia and Europe. Provided Nissan can figure out how to improve its efficiency at higher speeds, that is.
