2026 Jeep Cherokee First Look: Finally Electrified

The Jeep Cherokee has returned, packing rugged style and versatility. Unlike the outgoing model, it sports boxy styling, complete with squared-off LED headlights and U-shaped DRLs. The 2026 Jeep Cherokee complements this with retro touches, such as the “Jerry Can”-inspired taillight design and the seven-slot grille. Larger than the vehicle it replaces, the new Cherokee also has a roomier interior with 30% more cargo capacity. That fresh and modern take on Jeep’s design language isn’t the only new thing, either. This Cherokee comes with a nice dose of electrification.

2026 Jeep Cherokee: Hybrid Power, Standard

For 2026, the Jeep Cherokee goes all in on electrified power since it comes standard with Stellantis’ new hybrid system. It pairs a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with two electric motors and a traction battery. Output checks in at 210 horsepower and 230 lb-ft of torque. However, Jeep didn’t disclose the transmission or whether it even has one. That suggests this setup may have similarities with the hybrid systems found in certain Toyota and Honda models. The latter completely eschews a traditional transmission for a direct drive setup.

As for capability, the 2026 Cherokee comes standard with AWD. Additionally, it also includes a rear-axle disconnect system that allows it to operate in FWD mode when extra traction isn’t required. Plus, the Selec-Terrain management system includes four drive modes: Auto, Sport, Snow, and Sand/Mud. Jeep also notes a best-in-class approach and departure angles of 19.6 and 29.4 degrees, respectively. Ground clearance checks in at 8.0 inches, while the breakover angle is 18.8 degrees.

In terms of fuel economy, Jeep expects the 2026 Cherokee to receive a combined rating of 37 mpg. It’ll also have a driving range of over 500 miles on a single tank, which Jeep says is more than many competitors.

Fresh New Tech

Inside, the 2026 Cherokee is all about the tech features. It comes standard with a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster and the new Uconnect 5 interface with a 12.3-inch touchscreen. Yes, it includes standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, too. You can also spec it with a premium audio system option and Amazon Alexa compatibility. Additionally, it includes a 10-year service contract for Stellantis’ new Connect One connected services package. That adds goodies like over-the-air software capability and an available Connect Wi-Fi Plus package upgrade with unlimited data.

Every Cherokee also comes with a full suite of driver assistance features. This includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, Intersection Collision Assist, and blind spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert. Also standard is Active Driving Assist, which bundles adaptive cruise control with several other assistance systems. Additionally, a surround view camera system is available.

In terms of comfort, the Cherokee has ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and a panoramic sunroof available as optional extras. For added convenience, a hands-free power liftgate is also offered.

4 Trims to Start

When it arrives at dealers early next year, the 2026 Jeep Cherokee will be offered in four trims: base, Laredo, Limited, and Overland. That base model starts at $36,995, while the Laredo checks in at $39,995. The Limited and Overland cost $42,495 and $45,995, respectively. Production will take place at Stellantis’ Toluca, Mexico assembly plant.
