2026 Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC Takes the Reigns From GT500

Looking for a track-ready Mustang, but don’t have the coin for the GTD? Ford has something for you now with the 2026 Mustang Dark Horse SC. Slotting between the standard Dark Horse and the GTD, this latest high-performance variant was developed with the help of the team behind the GTD and the Mustang GT3 race car. Heck, they even took the Dark Horse SC to Sebring and Virginia International Raceway to test it alongside its supercar and race-prepped brethren!

As a result, the 2026 Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC features numerous performance enhancements. These include a new Track package that adds Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. Additionally, the Dark Horse SC has a new aluminum hood with carbon fiber vents, a revised front fascia, and under venting to improve aerodynamic performance. Moreover, it helps improve cooling for the supercharged 5.2-liter V8. Although we know it comes paired exclusively to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, Ford did not share the engine’s output. If we were to guess, expect similar numbers to the old GT500, which had 760 hp and 625 lb-ft.

The changes don’t stop there. A new ducktail rear trunk improves the standard rear wing’s efficiency by 10 percent. The wing generates 620 pounds of downforce at a speed of 180 mph. The Dark Horse SC also uses carbon fiber wheels to cut weight. Together with those Brembo brakes, the Track package cuts weight by 150 pounds.

Furthermore, Ford replaced the steel suspension components with forged links and added a lightweight magnesium strut tower brace. The latter reduces unsprung mass while sharpening steering feel. For those looking for a look that’s closer to the GTD, Ford has the Dark Horse SC Special Edition, which features the 3D-printed titanium accents. On the suspension front, the Dark Horse SC includes next-generation MagneRide dampers with revised spring rates and knuckles. Complementing that is a Variable Traction Control system with five levels. This allows the driver to completely turn off electronic stability control (ESC) or dial in the desired amount of traction assistance.

Inside, the Mustang Dark Horse SC includes a flat-bottom steering wheel with a 12 o’clock stripe and integrated performance controls. Alcantara and carbon fiber accents also feature heavily in the cabin. Meanwhile, the Track package includes Recaro sport seats trimmed in leather and Dinamica suede, featuring either Space Gray or Teal accents. Finally, it deletes the rear seats, replacing them with a storage shelf.
