Tesla just announced some changes for the Model 3, incte U.S., Puerto Rico, and Mexico. First, let’s take a look at the former. The Premium AWD now accelerates quicker, hitting 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, an improvement of 0.4 versus the current iteration. However, Tesla does not disclose horsepower ratings on the Standard and Premium models, so we don’t know how it made the Premium AWD model that much quicker. Is it additional power? Revised electric motor calibration? Who knows.
Where we do know of a power increase is in the Tesla Model 3 Performance. Its horsepower rating increases to 528 from 510. Meanwhile, its 0 to 60 mph time remains at 2.9 seconds. Furthermore, its driving range rating sees a slight bump to 316 miles from 309 when equipped with all-season tires. On the other hand, examples equipped with summer tires are now rated at 310 miles, an increase of roughly 4 miles. Every Model 3 Performance also comes with a black headliner as standard.
On the tech front, the Model 3 trades out the existing 15.4-inch touchscreen for the larger 16-inch unit. This is the same display that first debuted on the refreshed Model Y, which had the project code Juniper. Additionally, the Premium trim swaps the 19-inch Nova wheels for Dark Nova alloys of the same diameter. Yes, it’s the same design, just with a darker finish. However, keep in mind that these reduce driving range to 343 miles on the Premium RWD or 332 miles on the Premium AWD.
Despite these updates, pricing holds steady at $39,880 for the Model 3 Standard RWD. Moving up to the Premium RWD bumps the sticker price up to $45,380. On the other hand, the Premium AWD checks in at $48,880, while the Performance trim costs $56,380.
