Subaru used Boxerfest 2026 to debut a new special edition of the 2027 WRX called the GD25. This pays tribute to the first generation sold in the U.S. back in 2002. That carried the GD chassis code name, hence that part in the model’s name. Meanwhile, the 25 signifies 25 years since the WRX arrived in North America.
So, what did Subaru add to distinguish the 2027 WRX GD25 from the rest of the lineup? Quite a bit. However, don’t expect more power. This uses the same 2.4-liter boxer turbo-four with 271 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, it comes exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission. Power goes to all four wheels through Subaru’s Symmetrical AWD system. Mechanically, the GD25 features an STI short-throw shifter and a flexible strut tower bar, both of which are available on the rest of the WRX lineup as accessories. On the other hand, it comes with a performance-tuned suspension that pairs stiffer springs with revised damping calibrations. Subaru did not specifically mention the inclusion of adaptive dampers like on the tS and GT trims, so we suspect they’re not included. Brembo brakes with gold brake calipers also come standard.
On the outside, the WRX GD25 comes painted exclusively in World Rally Blue Pearl. It also features gold-painted 19-inch alloy wheels shod in Bridgestone Potenza S007 high-performance tires. Out back, the GD25 sports a dry carbon fiber swan-neck rear wing from Subaru Tecnica International. That’s the same one from Travis Pastrana’s WRX ARA25L rally car, adding another nod to Subaru’s motorsport heritage. Stepping inside, the GD25 includes Recaro seats with red accent stitching.
The WRX GD25 arrives in summer 2027. Additionally, production is limited to 350 units, meaning this will be rare. Expect markups despite it not being a true STI model.
