2027 BMW iX4 First Look: It Lives!

The gas-powered X4 may be gone, but BMW isn’t done with coupe-like SUVs, as the 2027 iX4 shows. The third Neue Klasse model joins the iX3 and i3, further expanding the German brand’s battery-electric lineup. Featuring a long wheelbase and a sleek, flowing silhouette, the iX4 looks sporty. Every variant comes standard with the M Sport package, adding to its athletic look. These include 20-in. M light alloy wheels and optionally, M Sport brakes with blue or red calipers. Meanwhile, the iX4 M60 features 21-inch alloy wheels.

That low roofline isn’t just for show either. That helps contribute to the iX4’s 0.23 coefficient of drag. Additionally, the 2027 BMW iX4 offers optional M Yellow lights on the M60 model. These draw inspiration from BMW race cars. Meanwhile, the standard M Iconic Glow exterior package adds distinct light patterns. M60 models also include an M rear spoiler designed to increase downforce for improved handling. As for the rest of the rear, it’s an evolution of what’s found on the past X4s and X6s, given the Neue Klasse design treatment.

Inside, the iX4 features the same interior layout as the iX3 and i3. That means it comes with the BMW Panoramic Vision and a 17.9-inch free-cut center display. Furthermore, a head-up display is available as an option. BMW Operating System X runs everything alongside the four super brains that include the Heart of Joy and a whole suite of available apps. On the other hand, the M60 adds an M Sport steering wheel with a red center marker and M-specific design details. It also adds M Sport and M Sport Plus drive modes and optional M Sport seats. A full suite of driver assistance features also comes standard and can be upgraded with hands-free semi-autonomous driving capability and automated parking.

2027 BMW iX4: Next-Generation EV Power

Like the iX3 and i3, the iX4 is available in two configurations with standard dual-motor AWD. The iX4 50 xDrive features 463 hp and 475 lb-ft of torque, allowing it to accelerate to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds. BMW says that the 50 xDrive has an estimated driving range rating of 428 miles. On the other hand, the iX4 M60 has 603 hp and 645 lb-ft. This variant can go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds. Both variants use a 112.2-kWh battery backed by an 800-volt electrical architecture. This allows the iX4 to have a peak DC charge rate of 400 kW, enabling it to gain 184 miles in 10 minutes under ideal conditions and with a compatible charging station. Meanwhile, DC charging from 10 to 80% takes 21 minutes under ideal conditions at high-powered stations.

As with other Neue Klass vehicles, the iX4 features a cell-to-pack design. This enables higher energy density while cutting weight and cost. Together with the pack-to-open-body construction that allows the battery to act as a structural component, the iX4 has improved torsional body rigidity. On the suspension front, the iX4 features double-joint spring front struts and a five-link rear with stiffer control arm bearings. The M60 model comes standard with the Adaptive M Suspension, sport steering, and the M Sport rear differential for sharper handling and extra traction.

Manufactured alongside the iX3 at the BMW Group Debrecen Plant in Hungary, the iX4 goes on sale soon, starting with the 50 xDrive model. The M60 variant arrives in March 2027. Pricing starts at $67,550 for the iX4 50 xDrive.
