Hyundai To Introduce 36 Models in 30 Months

At its annual general shareholders’ meeting, Hyundai announced a massive product and manufacturing strategy. This underscores its commitment to North America, including the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. From 2026 to 2030, the Korean automaker aims to introduce 36 all-new or significantly enhanced models, including cars, SUVs, trucks, and commercial vehicles. In addition to core models, these include new trims and specialty models wearing XRT and N badges.

Hyundai noted that these models feature a wide range of powertrains. Along with gas, hybrid, and EV vehicles, extended-range EVs or EREVs are also in the cards. Rumor has it that Hyundai’s first EREV system may debut in the refreshed Santa Fe SUV and the next-generation Genesis GV70. This comes after a previously announced $26 billion investment in the United States. That initial commitment included a new state-of-the-art steel mill in Louisiana and a robotics innovation hub.

The latest announcement expands on Hyundai’s North American product strategy, which focuses on the broader localization and manufacturing goals in the U.S. Additionally, the automaker targets more than 80 percent of vehicles sold in the U.S. to be sold domestically. At the same time, it aims to increase the U.S. supply chain content from 60 to 80 percent.

With this announcement, expect more Hyundai models to move production to the U.S. It also means the automaker’s current facilities could expand further to accommodate more vehicles. Hyundai recently expanded its American footprint with the opening of its Metaplant in Georgia. Currently, that facility builds the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 9, with hybrids set to join later on. On the other hand, the brand’s manufacturing plant in Mobile, Alabama, already builds several models. These include the Santa Fe, Santa Cruz, Tucson, and Genesis Electrified GV70. Early on, the Alabama plant also built the Sonata and Elantra.
