Subaru has teased the fourth member of its battery-electric vehicle family. Debuting at the 2026 New York Auto Show, the automaker says this new SUV is ready to power up your next family adventure. That’s a broad statement, but based on the other details released, it’ll do so in more ways than one.

The press release only came with two sentences. In addition to confirming that it’s an EV, Subaru also revealed that this vehicle has 420 hp! Based on a quick search, that’s the most powerful vehicle from the brand to date in the North American market. More than special variants of the legendary WRX STI and even the Trailseeker! Unsurprisingly, this new EV also comes standard with the automaker’s familiar Symmetrical AWD system.

As for the teaser image, Subaru did a fantastic job keeping the design mostly hidden. However, its front fascia gives away a lot. It features the same six-star LED daytime running lights and low-mounted headlight projectors as the Solterra, Trailseeker, and Uncharted. We also see what looks raised roof rails, a nod to the brand’s outdoorsy and adventurous heritage.

When you put all of these little pieces together, it’s clear that this vehicle is Subaru’s version of the recently revealed 2027 Toyota Highlander. The long and boxy roofline, gives it away too. Meanwhile, the fact that this version has more power hints that it may lean more towards performance than the Highlander. Having standard AWD also builds on this notion that Subaru’s version may be the more athletic one and likely have slightly more ground clearance.

We’ll know more on April 1 when the sheet officially comes off at the 2026 New York Auto Show. With this new model, Subaru completes its EV lineup, offering an extensive range of SUVs for every taste.
