2026 Subaru Forester Adds Onyx Edition, Lowers Prices

Subaru has announced the expansion of the 2026 Forester lineup. Most importantly, it also reduced the prices of every single model. Yup, you read that right, Subaru cut prices and the Forester, strengthening the SUV’s value proposition and competitiveness. To recap, the 2026 Forester comes standard with a 2.5-liter boxer-four making 180 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque. Gas models come with a CVT. On the other hand, the hybrid models use the same engine coupled to an electric motor and a small lithium-ion battery. Its output stands at 194 hp.

Based on the Sport trim, the 2026 Subaru Forester Onyx Edition receives the blackout treatment. This includes dark metallic finish 19-inch alloy wheels, black underguards with gloss black inserts, and dark gray exterior badging. Inside, the Onyx Edition has black and gray StarTex upholstery, brown contrast stitching, and black interior accents with a simulated leather dash panel. It also comes with a passenger’s side decorative trim with brown stitching and metallic accents. Additionally, the Onyx Edition comes standard with a Harman Kardon premium audio system and the sportier suspension tune as in the Sport trim.

Pricing for the Onyx Edition checks in at $37,945. That puts it right in the middle of the lineup, just below the Wilderness and above the Sport trim. However, the Onyx Edition only comes with the gas 2.5-liter engine. As for the rest of the lineup, the base Forester now starts at $31,445. Meanwhile, the top-end Forester Touring checks in at $41,445 with the base engine or $42,995 with the hybrid system.

With the price reductions, the Forester now undercuts one of its biggest competitors, the Toyota RAV4. By a significant amount, too. A similarly equipped RAV4 costs nearly $50,000. A similarly priced Honda CR-V Hybrid costs similar money but has fewer features.
