Pricing for the 2026 Honda Civic Type R has been announced. At $48,090, it’s $1,000 more than before. However, you’re not getting anything new because the legendary hot hatch remains unchanged. Since the current generation FL5 model’s launch in 2023, Honda hasn’t made any major revisions to its front-drive performance icon. Meanwhile, its price inches closer to the $50,000 mark every year.
The key competitors to the 2026 Honda Civic Type R include the Toyota GR Corolla, Hyundai Elantra N, Volkswagen Golf GTI and Golf R, and Subaru WRX. Of those three, only the Hyundai remains cheaper than the Honda, offering nearly the same performance for under $40,000. Meanwhile, certain versions of the Toyota and Subaru cost more than the Civic Type R, provided you can get one at MSRP. Additionally, Toyota, Hyundai, and Subaru also have automatic transmission options in their entries, expanding their appeal. On the other hand, both hot Golf models only come with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. Finally, the Civic Type R soldiers on as the sole entry to exclusively offer a six-speed manual gearbox.

As for the rest of the car, the Civic Type R only comes in a single, loaded trim. It’s powered by a 2.0-liter turbo-four with 315 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. It also comes with a helical, limited-slip differential, Brembo front brakes, and adaptive dampers. To help quell torque steer, the front suspension has a dual-axis setup. Finally, the Civic Type R has four drive modes: Comfort, Sport, Individual, and +R.
In terms of features, the CTR comes standard with the Honda Sensing driver assistance suite, a 10.2-inch digital cluster, and a nine-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also includes a 12-speaker Bose premium audio system. Unfortunately, Honda still hasn’t added heated front seats.
