2026 Toyota Tacoma Goes Heavy on the Blue

Toyota has announced that the 2026 Tacoma goes on sale this winter, remaining largely unchanged from the previous model. That means gas models have a 2.4-liter turbo-four with up to 278 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission comes standard. Certain trims also offer a six-speed manual transmission for those who prefer to shift their own gears. A hybrid powertrain is also available on three trims and standard on Trailhunter and TRD Pro. That makes up to 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque, and comes only with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

So what changed for the 2026 Toyota Tacoma? Just exterior colors. The TRD Pro is now available in the new Wave Maker exterior color. Meanwhile, other trims now have the option of Heritage Blue, which replaces the more vibrant Blue Crush Metallic. On the other hand, the base SR trim in the XtraCab configuration now comes standard with a tow hitch.

Redesigned two years ago, the Tacoma continues to offer an expansive lineup of eight trims, two cab styles, and two bed lengths. These include the Trailhunter, which Toyota designed for overlanding, and the TRD Pro, a performance-minded truck made for desert running and high-speed off-roading. For something more street-oriented, the Limited trim comes standard with Adaptive Variable Suspension that constantly adjusts damping to improve the ride. With the hybrid powertrain, the Limited trim also comes standard with full-time 4WD.

Pricing starts $33,740 for the base SR trim. At the top end, you’re looking at eye-watering $65,945 for the TRD Pro or the Trailhunter. Add $500 for the latter equipped with the long bed option. You’ll also need to wait longer if you want the Wave Maker exterior color on your TRD Pro. Toyota says that one won’t reach dealers until March 2026.
