Electrify America announced the opening of its first charging station in Santa Monica, California. This new site is designed to meet the growing demand for accessible DC fast charging. Additionally, it helps grow the infrastructure that supports battery-electric vehicles. Adding this in California, a state with among the highest EV adoption rates in the nation, means more charging options, especially for those without home charging. The site in Santa Monica marks the third site opening for the charging provider. Recently, it also opened charging stations in San Francisco’s Harrison Street and San Diego’s Fashion Valley.
The new charging station in Santa Monica features 20 Hyper-Fast DC fast chargers, all of which deliver up to 350 kW. That’s enough to add 20 miles of driving range per minute on EVs able to accept high-power charging. Additionally, the station has 24/7 access with on-site security cameras. It’s also located near Interstate 10 and amenities like shopping and restaurants. In fact, Third Street Promenade is just down the street!
Currently, Electrify America operates the largest network of high-voltage DC chargers capable of supporting today’s modern EVs. In total, there are 1,000 stations and over 5,000 chargers in operation across North America. Infrastructure continues to scale up as customer demand for public charging grows alongside EV adoption. Electrify America launched its first 350-kW charger in 2018, while Plug & Charge capability for select brands and vehicles arrived in 2020. The company continues to work on future-proofing its network through testing new equipment at its Technology Campus and building larger stations to support the next generation of EVs.
The new charging station in Santa Monica is part of Electrify America’s holistic approach to a customer-first charging experience at its sites. This strategy focuses on accessibility, larger stations, and the use of next-generation technologies.
